@Red Wings de Détroit

Lightning and Panthers have come back online. I fear it's over for the Wings unless they can manage to choke less than the Leafs.

  2. Would love a Dallas Stars update video. Idk if there’s anything noteworthy, maybe just the frustration/confusion they give me as a fan!

  3. I think expectations were too high, I am very much with Stevie when he says we’re not a playoff team yet.

However, I won’t lie, being the only one out of the three doing well was nice. I would like is to still stockpile picks and prospects though

  4. Since the Wings/Wild played each other in November, both teams went in opposite directions. I can't remember a game where so many players from the same team tripped each other up, allowing odd man rushes. It was keystone cops defense for the Wings. Go Wild!

  5. Let my preface this by saying it’s not Kanes fault but his signing has changed the balance of the team. Prior to his arrival we all had players in the appropriate spots. Everyone was placed in the correct spot in the lineup. After the signing they were moved around and it definitely ruined our chemistry. At least the prospects are in grand rapids or in junior and Europe. We will miss the playoffs again. Not even in high sight, we should have messed with the chemistry. I guess we’ll have to try again next year.

  6. The trip to Europe is what screwed these guys up before that trip they were playing decent hockey they come back lots of injuries and they have never gotten back to that fast paced play they started with

  7. I still support the Yzerplan. Even with this slump, this season has been the best that they've ever been since the last time they made the playoffs (although this will change if they continue the slump). Either way, rebuilds aren't always linear, and Yzerman didn't get the Lightning to the playoffs every year. Also, Patrick Kane has been the best Red Wing during this stretch. It's not his fault.

  8. I’m not too sure about the yzerplan anymore. I was a believer, but after seeing nothing but free agents playing for the wings and no prospects, plus Grand Rapids is also terrible. I just don’t know anymore

  9. Kane didn't help the Rangers. If he had the Rangers would've kept him. And look how well they are doing now.
Red Wings start the season good, Kane joins, Wings begin to tank.

  10. The Wings seem to follow this track in recent years where they start off strong and then just gas out and degrade into a lottery team. That's an angle I'd like to see in a video, covering their records early in the season compared to later on going back 5 or so years. You'll see the same pattern to varying degrees.

  11. I’ll feel bad for them if they go 26 years without the playoffs and routinely finish in the bottom 5.

  12. Not a wings fan, but hasn't larkin been out for most of this stretch? The teams offense literally revolved around him and Debrincat to start the season. He seems to have made massive improvements going into this year, and it makes sense Copp has sucked since larkins been out, getting tougher assignments. Also perrons gunna be a bit off coming back from suspension. That's normal.

Not sure bout Raymond though, wow that's rough.

  13. I do still believe in the Yzerplan, but it's getting harder and harder to be positive about this season. Maybe the start was too hot, we all knew 15% shot percentage wasn't sustainable, but we wanted to believe. It's been too long.

  14. 3 points off last years pace with a better roster. Not looking good for being a playoff team this year unless they pull their fingers out sharpish.

  15. This Red Wings season looks pretty similar to what happened last year. I wouldn't give up on the Yzerplan, but if the Red Wings are in a rebuild like Steve claims, why has he signed so many free agents the last two offseasons? Also, why is the average age of a player on the Red Wings similar to contending teams like Toronto and Edmonton rather than younger like other rebuilding teams in Ottawa and Buffalo? Something doesn't add up.

  16. I've been insulted by so many Detroit fans these past couple of years. At the beginning of last season and the beginning of this season I said Detroit needed to show some improvement, or Yzerman will be on a shorter leash. I stand by that. He's rapidly running out of time and if they don't earn at least 90 point, then I think next year could be Yzerman's last.

  17. They need to play better team defense. None of this, three or four Red Wings go into the corner after the puck, leaving the rest of the opposition players, wide open to score goals. If they aren't going to score goals, play better team defense. Watch the Boston Bruins. Copy them on the ice.

  18. Everything was going fine until they got Kane. Not saying he's a bad player but sometimes bringing in a big name player like that can mess with the rhythm a team has. Then add to that the issues with Larkin, Compher and Husso getting injured and Parron suspended which made December a disaster for us.

  19. Is Coach Lalonde solid in head coaching role..or is he best in supporting role.

Sometimes when you see chaos shift to shift..defense and goaltending collapses..it’s at the heart of things a head coach who is struggling to be a consolidator of things. And a guy who no matter how well intended isn’t well suited to alpha role.

There are lots of quality players on this team. Seeing what Tocchet has done in Vancouver..St Louis developing young Habs team..Torts in Philly.

  20. It was something hearing Red Wings' fans talk of playoffs after 10 or 15 games into the season, after I had pointed out they consistently fade down the stretch year after year since 2016. tHiS tEaM iS rEaDy

  21. Wings are too soft. And not sure what the defensive coaching is all about. Even Seider has looked woeful this year. So easy for teams to play around the D. The goaltending coach also need to be let go. So many tenders have failed there recently. But saying that, Husso isn't a number goalie. Kane isn't a problem but sometimes a player can ruin a lockeroom chemistry. But not sure that's the case. Not sure Lalonde is the right guy. Copp, Holl, Chiarot, Petry, Rasmussen are all names they could do with moving. But not sure who'd take them. Yzerman does need some questioning now too.

Watching the Wings play defense is like watching a kids soccer game…….they all just follow the puck and have no awareness of what's going on around them.

  22. It's been a nightmare ever since Larkin got punched in the back of the head. And if you look at his press conference, in which he called out the DoPS and Gary Bittchman, saying he doesn't feel safe in this league, it almost seems like that deflated him and the entire team immensely. It also doesn't help that James Reimer is a pumpkin, and the goalie that actually had a good game with Lyon and Husso out (Hutchinson) isn't going to get a single followup shot, even though he made some mad saves to keep Detroit in that game with Jersey.

They look more emotionally and mentally out of every game than everything else.

I'm impressed by Yzerman getting Kane and DeBrincat, and then Walman, Seider, and Husso, all steals to build talent, but I'm very very very confused by the acquisition of Petry, and Copp. Both have been awful. However, the logjam at D is getting frustrating. You've got 1 amazing D Prospect that absolutely belongs in the NHL, and 2 more starting to knock on the door. There's also so many questions about when we see Berggren and Soderblom again.

Admittedly, I am starting to question Lalonde, and getting close to questioning Yzerman. Patrick Kane has definitely injected star-level talent, they have an elite goal scorer in DeBrincat, and it looks like they have legit superstars on defense. But why is only 1 of them on the team?

  23. Lalonde worked last year when the WIngs had a bunch of young players with minimal experience. He seemed to be in 'teaching mode' rather than accountability mode. That's not working at all with this years team that has veterans on the ice other than Raymond and Seider. Yzerman needs to bring in a coach that will demand defensive accountability. As Debrincat has admitted, they have to stop trying to outskill other teams and play some defense.

  24. Detroit fan here, Yzerplan is still a good plan, I don’t think we were in a position to have playoffs this year, I think the goal was next year because we have a lot of younger guys that are ready to make the jump or the ones that have made their jump are still finding out their true game with the team. This year is the year to experiment and see what works and what lines are better than others with certain players. If playoffs happen then that’s awesome but I think realistically the goal is next year and as far as goaltending I think we are waiting for Sebastian Cossa to make his jump up

  25. I separate Yzerman and his construction of the team from Lalonde and his execution of the system. This team to my eye is having systemic problems game in, game out. Every game is the exact same issues; it doesn't matter who they're playing against. They have terrible defensive positioning, they turn the puck over, they lose battles along the boards. I have no problem with the players Yzerman has assembled, they're better than the late Holland years. The problem is their in-game execution as a team, and to me that lies in coaching. I liked what Lalonde did for us in Toledo and I had high hopes when he got hired, but I think it's time for a change behind the bench.

  26. I saw this coming from a mile away. Husso is the worst starting goalie in the league. His stats were dropping even in wins. The team was relying on big offensive numbers to cover for him. However, that's not sustainable over an 82 game season and offense dries up. Now we're stuck with a team that can't keep a 4 goal lead. Every team in the NHL looks forward to boosting their stats against the Wings.

  27. I don't know what to fix. Honestly at this point I'm just tired of the lack of transparency. I'm tired of having to guess what the problem is every time we fall apart late in the season. This team at this point in the year doesn't look any better than we did last year despite having a better roster. If anything, several players look noticeably worse this year. I just want to understand what's happening and if ANYONE in that organization has any clue how to fix it or the will to do anything at all. Because the most frustrating part of being a wings fan lately is watching us fall apart like we've forgotten how to play hockey and just hearing all the same answers from the coaches and from the players.

  28. Since the start of the new season, I always thought expectations were too high for Detroit. I thought they were a .500 team. Yzerman went to free agency a couple of years too early to bring in some depth when he should have been accumulating more draft capital. Bad luck with the draft lottery and some draft picks that were busts (Zadina) sealed the Redwings fate.
