Above 11.2-.5 x 8 for the leaf is like another team offering 12.85 x 7 years. Is there seriously teams wanting to give him that???? I guess Chicago or Anaheim. meh I hope we win a cup before I die lol

  3. LeafsRamsRapsFan

The good: we will have the core for most of thier careers.

The bad: we will have the same core eating a high%of the cap for the foreseeable future. The same core that have failed year after year.

  4. minwood

If the cap goes up by 4M we’ll struggle for a year and then PRAY that JT signs a team friendly contract to help us get a cup.

  5. Perfect600

Should have gotten done in the offseason.

    Oh well.

  6. JRocleafs

I don’t trust a single thing Kyper or Bourne have to say , this is just an exaggeration to get clicks.

  7. Ladyboy227

Ive already started tuning out of the games until playoff time, but holy fuck if we pay another winger 11 million in a salary cap league its really over.

The regular season is a fun time, win a few games, make a couple bucks, but theyve won nothing and shelling out more money on the same structure isnt going to change that.

Theres no way shanny isnt a sleeper agent at this point, its like mlse doesnt even care how much money a cup run would bring in.

  8. BravoBet

    Terrible 😞

This cup can’t win a cup paying players liek this

  9. dwydwy555555

Willy can be the best player on the ice every shift if he wants, thing is he doesn’t show effort 50% of the time he plays. This season being his contract year you can see the difference in effort. Let’s hope after he gets paid he keeps giving er

  10. runstrawberry

Tavares and Nylander swapping contracts is the exact thing the leafs need to get over the hump 🙂

  11. djlista

About 2.25M too much per year.

We the only team that is required to overpay for our own FAs

  12. ElephantShell34

In my heart, Willy is the guy I’ve always wanted here the most. He was the first in this wave of talented forwards, was a bright light in a time of hopelessness, got shit on by old hockey guys for so long, never cracked under the Toronto pressure, loves to play here.

On the ice is he perfect? No. But he’s incredibly fun to watch and I’ll be happy if he’s here for another 8 years even if it’s a lot of money.

Been my favourite Leaf since he made the team.

  13. Showtime98

Damn… I wonder what Marner gets on his next deal, fuck it man ride with these guys.

  14. This is horrible. 11.25 x 8 ???

Get ready to be the new whipping boy buddy.

  15. Woullie_26

So basically Run It Back ™️ but the core is more expensive?

Don’t get me wrong Willy is worth that money but you can’t pay Marner that aswell.

These guys together haven’t made it work and it’s not gonna work with them taking more % of the cap

  16. hymensmasher99

If this is true. Fuck it. I’m not worrying about the numbers. That’s a job for pridham. I love Nylander. He’s been my favorite leaf since he came here.

  17. dwnumber1

I guess they are looking at jt’s contract coming off the books in a couple of years

  18. mrb2409

This is like when Matthews was getting $15m. I’ll believe it when it happens.

That being said if it does happen then I don’t think Marner is getting any raise at all. He got paid last time and should be wanting to help the team by not taking any more.

  19. snipingsmurf

Nylander has been elite for the past 2.5 years. Totally worth.

  20. IAmTheBredman

I really find it hard to justify giving nylander 11.25. That’s what pasta just signed for and he has a rocket and a 61 goal, 113 point season under his belt. Nylander is clearly peaking at the right time for this deal, but I really think it should get done for 11 or less. The fact that nylander still doesn’t have a point total higher than what marner did in his 3rd season to get his 10.9 mil deal is a bit worrying. One great season doesn’t make you the third highest paid winger in the league. If that’s the number they land on then he has to be around 100 points/year for the majority of that deal.

  21. maximusasinus

I am excited if true. He is worth the cap hit. We’re not getting a player of equal or greater value through trade or free agency. He has been our most consistent player the last 3 years. I’d even say he has grown to be a better player year after year. He isn’t what is wrong with our roster.

  22. sluck131

Not surprised, he’s been lumped in with the « big 4 » yet gets paid 4 miss less then the others.

I wouldn’t take a discount just so Marner could get paid.

  23. Nyshot4par

I don’t give a fuk anymore about AAV. Just win a playoff series.

  24. world_citizen7

I guess they went with the DAVID PASTRNAK comparable:

    Right Wing
    Cap Hit: $11,250,000
    AGE:27
    HEIGHT: 6’0″
    WEIGHT: 194 lbs
    Contract Year stats: G-82 G-61 A-52 Points: 113

**Q for the board**: So what do you guys think – is the PASTRNAK contract a fair comparable?

*Note: Nylanders* ***projected*** *stats for this year are: G-82 G-41 A-75 Points: 116*

  25. E400wagon

The fact Kyper reported this guarantees it’s nothing close to what’s going to actually happen lol

  26. Dracko705

I seriously don’t care nearly as much about this deal as long as it’s done because we’ll just need to survive a couple of tight years before JT is off the books and we got from the Big 4 to the Big 3

  27. SpinningDickTwist

The moment he signs for that ridiculous number you guys will slowly but definitely start to scrutinize him like you do Marner, and bad news guys, when treated fairly Nylander’s effort is not even close to as consistent the other 3. It will not hold up well under the same scrutiny they receive.

If all parties involved were smart they’d leak 11.25×8 to reset expectations then come in wayyy under at 10.1×8. People would seal clap for that after this leak. Going over 11×8 which is obviously 88 will take the entire cake. The vitriol from fans is going to be absurd already at 11×8. Greedily banking an extra 2 mill would be a little extra fuck you to get everyone hot and bothered.

And you will hate this, but Willy is the perfect candidate to regress back to a 75 point pace within two years effort level is and has always been unreliable. That’s dangerous when combined with this level of greed and not giving a fuck what people think.

I have seen this in sports many times. Guy blows the tits off the league in contract year. Way beyond previous years effort level and point totals. Almost incomparable to himself. Gets wildly overpaid and never, ever tries as hard as he did that one season he needed a new contract.

For the love of god only give him an 8 team max NTC

  28. -Xebenkeck-

Nylander isn’t an 11m player. That’s more than Marner gets paid, and that contract is already controversial. Toss him.

  29. Secondusx

Honestly I don’t mind it. Out of all the huge contracts the only one that really worries me is the Tavares one. He’s only getting older, he is still an important piece to this team in certain places, but you can see his legs are catching up with him.

Does anyone else think he would be more fit for a 3rd line center role?

  30. Big_Albatross_3050

You know, I’ll take that, the last time we thought he was an overpay, Willy not just outperformed it, he crushed the fuck out of it. Plus he’s a C and I think he starts getting more C time in the future.

That said, that’s now the limit on Marner, Willy is our 2nd best player after 34, especially considering how he cranks it up way past 11 when the lights are brightest

  31. Devine97

Great, I love that the team will continue to neglect spending money on defence and goaltending.

  32. Wafflegator

If you thought this team lacked depth before…. Good for him though, he deserves it. I’m just surprised the Leafs can offer him that contract and still feel they can build a contending roster given the mess they’re currently in.
