@Hurricanes de la Caroline

This thing of goalie getting outside of crease and expecting immunity has been irritating me for decades. I think it doesn't get enough attention to be a major problem in big picture, hence approach to it hasn't changed for ages. But if i were a goalie, i would force NHL to intervene, because i would definitely expoit the sh*t out of this stupid rule, or lack of it.

  2. its been a crazy season for kochetkov, 3rd goalie to pretty much our only goalie. and he has really picked it up in the last month

  3. The NHL and Sportsnet don't have the clip of Kochetkov landing that hit on the boards. Pretty annoying because that's a super clipable moment

  4. Kooch actually WAS a defenseman at one point during his hockey career. The Carolina announcers pointed it out after he me made that play, I think they said he played it in juniors at one point.

  5. I get what you mean about making goalies fair game for checking but let’s consider how many starting goalies would be targeted and injured. Not good for the league.

  6. No, goalies should not be fair game to hit while playing the puck.
    While playing the puck goalies are sitting ducks that have poor mobility for getting out of way or bracing for contact. Goalies are usually playing the puck while an opposing player is skating full speed down the ice, against a target standing still. This results in the goalie being obliterated every time, like all the clips at the end of the video show. They got rid of touch icings essentially for that reason (colliding with the end boards vs stationary goalie).

  7. I like my games played like this guy does. So much personality to every game and you have to adapt as a player not only to teams but their individuals in order to win. Not everyone is into the game turning cookie cutter for how Bettman wants Entertainment delivered from his palms via Toe-Drag-Release.

  8. It's so dangerous and risky for a goalie to skate forward and try to out-race a skater. You really gonna take a car crash standing still? The skater is moving forward at full speed and you're coming to a stop or sliding. That Kochetkov play behind the net is what they should be doing but most of those goalies getting smoked abused their "privileges".

  9. The league has it clearly defined. Goalies are not fair game just because they're outside their crease.

    Rule 8.5 – Interference with the Goaltender
    Goaltender interference refers to any attacking player who, by means of their stick or body, interferes with or impedes the movements of the goaltender by actual physical contact. While incidental contact with the goaltender may occur, attacking players must make an effort to avoid contact in all circumstances. The onus is always on the attacking player and players who do not make an effort to avoid the goaltender must be penalized.

    Protection of the Goaltender: A Goaltender is not ‘fair game’ just because they are outside their goal crease. A penalty under this rule will be called where an opposing player makes unnecessary contact with the goaltender anywhere on the ice. Likewise, Referees should be alert to penalize goaltenders for infractions they commit within the vicinity of their goal.

  10. I just hope hes a good person. I hope he has a good heart and against Putin.. Because face it, He's a Russian.. what do you expect? His country invaded another country, and it is now losing that war in Ukraine that Putin started. His country is under massive sanctions. His country was GLOBALLY banned from ALL major sporting events and tournaments. Russains that support the war are in the wrong.

  11. Goalies coming out to play the puck can't be treated (e.g. hit) like any skater simply because they're not used to nor expecting to be hit and are of limited supply (only 2). The general rule of thumb is that a goalie shouldn't deliver a check or be physical and in kind, they're given that special bubble — that should have been a penalty called (it was interference) by the goalie.

  12. Leafs fan here, I am happy for the Canes and fans. Kooch is an awesome goalie and has a great personality as others in the comments have mentioned. Also loved his goalie goal and celly, great stuff

  13. Used to be able to hit the goalie when he came out of the crease to play the puck. They had to change the rule cause goalies were getting injured so much.
