Hate to see it. I think Hawks fans need to relax on saying it was a dirty hit and be thankful smith isn’t a headhunter type like Trouba. Trouba could have absolutely ruined this kid. Smith respectfully stood him up. It was a textbook clean hit. Anyone who says otherwise is letting their biased show and/or has never played a day of check league hockey

Feel bad for Bedard but this is really no big deal in the grand scheme of things. He’ll miss some time, heal up, come back and resume being Connor Bedard, which is a very good thing to be.

If nothing else we got an extremely exciting game out of it. Hope Bedard heals up well.

If I had to guess he skated into Berdard with his mouth open too. It sucks for Chicago and for Bedard. But this is the NHL and even the shitty players skate pretty fast.

I guess most consider it a clean hit under the rules. And I do not think that Smith took a run at him (the way we have seen Trouba do so often), or intentionally made shoulder to head contact.
At the same time, I would rather see Bedard’s skill than a shoulder to head hit that results in guys out for weeks with broken jaws, or as happens in other cases, concussions. Though technically a clean hit under the rules, the league should alter the rules to more strongly discourage hard contact to the head.
And please, no ‘he needs to learn to keep his head up’ responses. Bedard actually had his head pretty much up. He was in a natural skating posture.

But someone had to show our boys that you don’t just let a dude dangle right between you when you can just light him up. This style of play « isn’t our game » but sometimes a team will give you no other choice.
