47 million tied up in 4 players next year 🙁
Toronto Sports Media is a cesspool of despair. Positivity doesn't produce dollars so they don't produce positive media, and over time it bleeds into the fanbase. Until that changes, nothing will make the majority of fans happy except a Stanley Cup.. with 32 teams, it's pretty hard to win… Fans will complain, and if/when the Leafs do win, they'll be there to tell you why they knew it was a good idea all along.
Born and raised a Toronto sports fan.
Willingly a Coyotes fan since '04, so yes I realize I've lost my damn mind lol
Congrats to the leafs on building a great regular season team.
What hockey player has earrings? Shave the molestache
As much as i love the Leafs, I think that the only problem with the core 4 is that JT is being paid too much and that they should try to offload him in order to acquire some defensive player(s). The leafs have maybe figured out their goaltending if woll comes back in decent shape and with jones being insane right now, and the only thing they are really lacking right now is their defence. (Yes I know JT has a no movement clause, so either they let him walk or get him to wave his nmc).
Great move locking up our superstar before he hits the market and other teams drooling to get him have no shot now. He always wanted to be a Leaf though so that was never in doubt. Team is shaping up nice now all they have to do is get a couple d men via deadline or trade route perhaps for this playoff run LETS GO!!! AND as you said leafs have to figure out the winning part in the playoffs but now pretty much guaranteeing we make it each year as we have done for plenty of years now is an excellent place to be at and sooner or later Leafs will figure out the post season too and win the damn thing and you do it with superstars which the Leafs have plenty of locked up now.
Over Paid! I don’t care how good ya are! You’ll can keep paying for the OVER PRICED TICKETS……Knuckleheads.
Ok go ahead and defend being ripped off. 😂
Nylander totally deserves that he has been in top10 points almost all season longs. Best leaf.
Sure, the cap is going up, but Marner is going to want a raise of at least another million a year, so they don't have as much extra breathing room as some people think. It's crazy that Treliving is continuing the trend started by Dubas and throwing more half the cap at 4 players. Does he really think the team can win 4 playoff rounds with a bunch of AHL d-men and a new minimum salary goalie every year who eventually leaves in the summer to go somewhere else?
Now that he's locked long-term, he'll start sucking big time, because he's a Leaf – and as soon as he gets traded in a couple years (after wavering his NMC), he'll start again being a beast, because, well, it's the Leafs hahahaha
For Leafs fans. 2 Major Issues:
1. NMC is a major problem and puts us ALL-IN on this core. If he was tradeable, we could still tinker with the chemistry of this team by moving this contract.
2. The term is too long!!! Nylander is a one-dimensional player and if he isn't putting up points, he's basically dead weight.
This guy is showing he is worth every penny. How are they going to pay him and the other three?
Can we sign kessel for the fourth line?
The biggest difference with Nylander this year is you notice him whenevers he’s on the ice. He’s been dominating the offence every game unlike previous years where he could go invisible for a 4 game stretch. Whether he keeps this up is unknown, but right now he is 1000% worth his contract.
No cup confirmed
Leafs fan.. him and matthews are perhaps our most likeable players, and they’re fucking awesome hockey players. Very happy with this, would have been sad if we lost him.
Tavares and Marner are great players but I believe things will change a lot with them (I believe JT will take a huge discount) and Marner either walks or gets traded (freeing up a lot of cap)
If they resign john T for a boat load AGAIN at his age and considering how he performs, ill just die laughing
More and more often, players are absolutely stellar on year their on-going contract will expire.
Toronto is done over HALF of salary in 4 people no wonder you can’t win shit you can’t afford any good D or Goalie see you after the first round
It would be great if he could play as a goaltender or defense. Does he deserve the contract? Sure, but it doesn't really help them at the back.
HE HAS PUT PEN TO PAPER
IMAGINE THEY GREW BALLS AND SIGNED HIM FOR 10MIL AT START OF SEASON FFS pussy ass GM
92m
I think as a leafs fan not enough people are seeing the contracts this way, it’s going to be 1 really bad year for the cap and that’s next year. After next year Marner and Tavares contracts are up and if you sign Marner to 12 million even, and don’t sign Tavares. Then Nylanders contract is basically Tavares contract Matthews and marners extensions are cover by the cap boost and technically you’ve opened yourself up to 6-8 million of cap space going into the 2025-2026 season with the leafs still having the big three.
Its time for Toronto to get their act together and compete hard for a Stanley Cup.
He will get a No bowel movement clause
as a 24-year-old Leafs fan I've been watching since 2006 and let's just say up until 2013 I had never seen my team even make the playoffs do you know what that feels like lol I will glady take what's going on in leaf land today "overpaying players" over giving up Tuukka Rask Tyler Seguin era of the Leafs any day
Honestly. Keeping nylander is probably the best thing to do for the leafs. Hears hoping that tavares takes less on the cap hit if he resigns
And you should allso mention sharks problem isnt their goalie.
Remember when 90% of non leaf fans said he was overpaid at 7m? Good times.
if one game ups his value then GM's are as stupid as the dirt they walk on, it didnt up his value
