No one works harder on the Leafs. It is why I am not worried about a drop off as others are. He has statistically improved year-over-year for 4 straight seasons now. Like who could have said years ago that Nylander would not only start killing penalties but would be leading the team in short-handed points? Dude drives to be better and is the one who takes the playoff failures the most to heart. Never complains and owns up to his poor play.
He can score and pass at elite level which few can do. Drives his own line regardless of who you play him with. He can play up or down the lineup. He is our biggest threat in OT and has been a more consistent performer in the playoffs. When he does play bad like all players do he is fine with the callouts, the punishment and uses it to get better.
By all accounts he wants to be a Maple Leaf for life too. Asked for 8 years the first time *(Dubas didn’t give it to him)* and this time signed for 8 years. No offer sheet talk or talks of walking in free agency or vague comments about his future. Didn’t take a discount but I don’t expect any player to especially after the others didn’t either. It is what it is. Just got to make it work now.

Marner? I think his current deal is pretty fair. Maybe another 1 mm overpay if weâre being picky (weâll see what the next one is)
Thatâs 3.5 mm, why on earth would we risk losing these players for that amount of cap space?
