It all comes down to Cutter’s willingness to play for Montreal, which we will never know
Kinda happy they didn’t do it.
Feels like a bit of a red flag, and no clue if he’d sign with us even then.
We also have nobody on Reinbacher’s level on the right side of the D.
Also, this makes me way more sure of the pick, especially if the Flyers wanted to take Reinbacher at 5 too, they clearly saw something there.

To all of the people saying this is a red flag, Adam Fox forced his way out of two different NHL organizations before playing a single NHL game and he is now a Norris winner and top 3 defenseman in the league. I don’t think it’s the character flaw or red flag a lot of other people do. Blake Wheeler also did this 20 years ago and he has had a very successful career.
Bergevin would’ve taken this in a heartbeat just for Cutter to sign in Boston as a college FA 😂
without even speaking of the doubt of Gauthier’s character I just don’t think he was worth 5oa, it would basically have been exchanging 5oa from one of the weakest draft ever for 5oa in one of the strongest draft ever and I don’t think Gauthier’s D+1 year was good enough for that.
also learning that at least 2 gms tried to move up to 5oa to get Rein really show how much he was appreciated by NHL teams compared to what fans thinks of him.
If it was pick 7 and Gautier I’d make that trade. It would’ve guaranteed us Michkov or Reinbacher
But not Gautier alone needed that pick
is Cutter Gauthier better than Ryan Leonard though? if the Habs wanted a potential elite american forward they could’ve just drafted him
Gauthier was fifth in a weak draft. Reinbacher was fifth in a historically deep draft. Not the same thing.
Could’ve just picked Ryan Leonard, a very similar player without the baggage. Obviously they highly rated Reinbacher though
This is the way I see it:
– The Habs turned down Askarov and a 1st
– The Habs turned down Cutter Gauthier
– The Habs didn’t draft Michkov
– The Habs didn’t draft benson or Leonard
– The Habs REALLY love Reinbacher. There’s obviously something they see that we don’t
Reinbacher need to be REALLY good if we passed on Gauthier,Michkov and probably askarov..

Good. Guy has shown his prima donna steps and can now step off into oblivion.
All of these prospects mentioned are forwards (except Askarov but at have Monty)… we REALLY need the defensive help. Reinbacher makes sense when you consider the needs of Montreal right now in time and honestly I’m into it.
