  1. They don’t elevate, they try the same failed five hole repeatedly; they shoot at the goalies chest and leg pads over and over and over and over again. It’s absolutely ridiculous how many times they shoot from the blue line with no screen right into the logo on the goalies jersey. Or their favorite, they miss the net all together. They just seem predictable at all times out there while the other team just doesn’t. They look like passengers at times, not fighting as hard for the puck. I dunno if any of that is right, but it definitely is what it looks like. Just low shot after low shot after low shot that any nhl caliber goalie could stop until it’s over…. And if there was an award for the most odd man breaks or breakaways that don’t even turn into a shot on net, the penguins would win the gold.

  2. Watched this team for 35 years. For me to sum up this season so far is frustrating/irritating. I could use more words of course. I really like Pettersson but I can't remember ever seeing a player shoot the puck and miss the net more. It seemed like Saturday night he missed the net over 50% of the time. Again, another part of NOT finishing. Just my thought DK. Always listening.

  3. It really all boils down to the power play. Look at all the top scorers and they all have significantly more PP points than Sid who has 10. Not saying it’s Sid’s fault, but add 10 more PP goals to our season and we are in a playoff spot right now. It doesn’t make sense but it must have something to do with Karlsson. If they get it sorted out they will shoot up the standings.

  4. Sullivans teams for years have had the problem of turning mediocre goalies into vezina contenders when they play them. System issue. Coach has long past lost the room and the system is old and he refuses to adapt.

  5. This is the first time Sid might finish with more goals than assists. It’s been close a couple times but he usually has far more assists.

  6. The GF/GA for this team is an indicator that this team is very good but they can't seem to correct their problems.

Their GF/GA places them in the #2 position in their division, yet they continue to be second to last.

Their system is not pretty but it works well enough 5 on 5 as they are one of the top teams in the league 5 on 5.

Goaltending continues to be an issue. Untimely bad goals. That buffalo game had at least 2 goals that should have been stopped. Combine this with the HORRIBLE power play and you're fighting an uphill battle no matter what team you play.

Add in disallowed goals like the buffalo game and it's hopeless.

Depth scoring has been better and I don't buy that as a reason when they lose. They have two legit 1st lines on offense and defense right now. It always comes down to the power play or goaltending or both.

  7. The Pens and fans love to give the opposing goalies way too much credit in games like this. Shooting percentage woes have been an issue for this team for a while now. Their 9.1% is exactly where it was at the end of last season. Currently that's below league average and in the league's bottom 1/4. In 2021, when everyone only blamed Jarry and his terrible play for the only reason why they lost in the playoffs to the islanders, their shooting percentage was 6.9 (that's 6 point bleeping 9). I'd like to think that even with Jarry's stank, If they'd been able to find the back of the net just 2 or 3 more times, they'd still take this series, as two of these games went to OT and 4 of them were decided by just one goal.

  8. Heres a big problem that i see.you can finish all you want in practice, but when it comes to the game.. i see a team that is LOADED with playmakers and rather light on snipers and PURE goal scorers. Think about it. Especially historically, you take our best players : crosby, malkin, and even Karlsson. These guys are most gifted at being set up guys these arent guys that are going to get 40-50 goals. That said, crosbys having a better year goal wise but he cant do it all

  9. Maybe I'm naive, maybe I'm an optimist, but why are we as a fan base freaking out on this team while on a 6-2-1 run? Yes the team was unlucky against the Sabres, but overall they're stepping up their game. Don't give up hope yet. At least I am not yet.

  10. I;m with DK. There is no logic behind the Pens inability to get the puck into the net…This has been a problem for years now. The Pens almost always have to score on the perfect <or almost perfect> play….None of this bouncing around off players skates and sticks and bodies and going into the net stuff..Wasnt so long ago where we had a D man (forgot his name) who was scoring goals for other teams by pucks bouncing off his skates. Is this happening to him wherever he is playing now? greasy goals for the Pens?…no sir. It really must have something to do with the Sullivan system or the makeup of players. It's not the lack of skill…thats for sure.

  11. That goalie interference, was point shaving.
    That offsides, was eh..
Professional sports leagues are becoming garbage, as long as Vegas gets their $$ what do fans matter..?

  12. I get the feeling that this year is literally the last year that the Penguins can win the Cup..bottom line is that Hextall screwed Crosby out of the chance at another Stanley Cup

  13. That's just the mental aspect of the game. And the script of a certain game. Miss a couple of big chances early on and the average goaltender suddenly feels like he's the best on the planet for a little while. And when frustration about missed chances and refs creeps into the minds you'll tend to freeze or force plays. That's usually when you don't get the result you want. In racing terms that's called overdrive. Like you create your own bad luck. We just can't rationalize every result and outcome. Rakell's season is another example. Or Florida's playoff run last season. I hate it when the Pens are on the wrong side of that, but in general that's one of the things I love about sport.
