@Rangers de New York

Important to note that Vally’s model doesn’t purely pull from online sources. They have people who also watch the games to help provide context to the scoring chances. So those high danger chances aren’t purely due to shot type/distance from the goal. Also factors in everything leading up to the scoring chance.

I feel crazy saying we haven’t been playing well these last 3 games but we also faced goalies who had probably their best performances of the season.

Rangers making everyone look like Vezina contenders recently

  3. SportingWallaby

they’ve been playing this way for weeks and have gotten their shit pushed in to the tune of 5-6+ goals against multiple times. perhaps it is not as good as it seems on the made up stats papers.

I thought Vally said something to the tune of teams get leads on us and then sit back more last night. Might explain this a bit

Blues shooting 25% is a big deal problem. Rangers have been gifting AAA odd man rushes too many games, this team is retrying last years strategy of trading chances and it’s not working without a Vezina candidate.

Why is it that I keep seeing people talking about how goalies suck now, but we seem to get goalied over and over again? At some point it’s just an excuse for poor play. This is a good team, but we’re banged up and in a slump now. It’ll pass.

You can’t win a playoff series if your goalie is 50% on high danger chances. I don’t care how great your team defense is, every team is going to give up 7 or 8 high danger chances throughout a game (especially if against good teams…good teams generate offense).

It sucks but right now we need like 5 goals per game to win, and you can’t just blame the D

Hockey be like that sometimes. It’s like that Picard quote « It is possible to commit no mistakes and still lose. »

I don’t think it’s just bad luck, which I’m saying as one of the more optimistic guys in here I think. This skid is the conflagration of multiple little fires that we can no longer contain.

    **Injuries and illnesses**

We didn’t have the best depth to begin with, so every man game lost is a huge hit to the lineup. The guys filling in are skating hard, but they’re simply not skilled enough.

    **Bottom 6 scoring**

I’ve defended Goody in the past, but it’s been extremely difficult to find much of anything redeeming in his performance lately. Him and Bonino are killing the bottom 6 scoring. Brodz and Pitter have speed at least, but they’ve also contributed next to nothing offensively. It looked like Wheeler might actually be useful for a minute there, but now he doesn’t even look like he could help the bottom 6. We’re simply too slow.

    **Mediocre defense and goaltending**

Let me clarify, mediocre for Shesty. We’ve grown accustomed to seeing him steal games for us. While it’s a little unfair to *expect* him to make some of those high danger saves, I don’t think our team defense is good enough to kick it up a notch and cover for whatever Shesty is going through.

The first few weeks of the season we looked impenetrable on defense. We were standing up the opposition at our blue line that led to chances the other way. If they managed to get into our zone, we were blocking shots left and right. Neither of those things are happening much right now.

Aside from getting healthy, I’m not really sure how we can fix this. Drury has some tough decisions ahead of him if we keep losing games. It feels like there could be a big change soon.

If this game happened after a win instead of after 2 losses this would be the consensus opinion on this sub btw

Agree, they hit quite a few posts when the score was close. A little bit more puck luck and it’s a different game

53% of the Blues chances were high danger chances. If that doesn’t tell the story rather than saying Binnington played out his mind I think you’re missing the bigger issue.

Oh these posts are popping up again…

This is why winning the battle on the spreadsheets doesn’t matter. I don’t give a fuck what the expected goals are if we keep losing.
