  1. Elliot's speculation makes sense as to why Gauthier may have soured on the Flyers. However, if true it does bring into question the kind of advice he's getting from those handling him or his ability to consider the advice he's getting. One thing is for sure. He will have a target on him during his first season, especially in Philly.

  2. I think it’s pretty obvious why he didn’t want to play and live in Philly… who in their right mind would ever willingly live in Philly. Not that California is much better.

  3. I’m not passing judgment on Gauthier until I hear what he has to say. I haven’t heard his side, at least not directly from him. Just a bunch of speculation and Twitter bullshit talk.

I will say this, though. I find it very hard to believe that he would refuse to meet with Daniel Brière in Sweden if something hadn’t happened that we weren’t aware of.

  4. This is continuing a dangerous trend. It’s making the NHL Draft irrelevant and showing draft picks that they can be free agents from jump street. Could you imagine if all the top draft picks in baseball decide that they want to play for the Yankees and Dodgers? The owners need to agree that there is only one way for a player to enter the league and that is through the team that drafts them.

  5. Elliott knows his shit. I remember when he was first on Hockey Night in Canada and wondered what he was doing there. He didn't play hockey. He wasn't a jock but somehow he developed the magic sauce to know what every team and every player that's in the mix is up to. He must be working 24/7 to keep on top of everything and that means he has to maintain relationships with all the GMs, Coaches, Agents and Scouts, plus all of the hockey media. The guy is impressive. I wonder how he makes his money but given his knowledge and connections he must be worth a ton of money.

  6. I wouldnt wanna play for torts either would probavky make him a 4th line grinder would have like to see his side or if hes looking out fir his best interest

  7. If you draft a player who refuses to sign they need to compensate the team that drafted them somehow.

Maybe the player carries a million in cap space per season for the original team that drafted them until they reach ufa status.

Maybe the team that eventually signs them gives up their next first round pick.

  8. With 32 teams in the NHL it is tempting for a kid's mind to wander to greener pastures however real or imagined.

  9. Kid doesn't owe anyone an explanation, personal choice and he did nothing against the CBA. If I don't want to work for somebody I'm not going to and I'm not going to explain myself to everybody. As far as the flyers handling it well I call BS. They kept it secret while it was convenient to them then RAN to the media to make sure everyone knew what happened. And people wonder why he doesn't want to play for them.

  10. This is a horrible trade 4 the flyers, lets drafted a Dmen in the first rd we can't drafted Dmen or trade 4 one….

  11. Hope Deslauriers breaks this kids back when the flyers play the ducks. Wish nothing but bad luck for this kid throughout his career. Thinking he is Sid or ovie when he has proved nothing yet.

  12. Let me mention his abysmal 7.7% shots to goals percentage he put up in this “superb” gold medal World Cup win. For anyone wondering bedard was 20.5%
Logan Cooley was 15%. In comparison.
Cutter plays small on the boards and is gonna lose even more time to get the puck off in the NHL. Time will tell though

  13. People are acting like this doesn't happen a lot. Players don't sign with the team that drafts them quite often. Who cares if he didn't want to play in Philadelphia? He doesn't owe the fans anything. The Flyers could have lost him for nothing, instead they got a defenseman & a draft pick. It's not like Gauthier demanded to be traded to Toronto or Vegas, he's going to Anaheim.

  14. So now when top players end up to teams they don’t want. Then they ask for a trade and a team loses out. This crap started with baby lindros back in the day.

  15. If that’s the case I think I understand. They probably came in, low balled him and said hey this is what we are giving you and nothing more. You can get an AHL contract. And then he was left shocked. And then subsequent conversations that proceeded were along the lines of are you ready to make that deal and be a flyer. To continue to rub it in.

Based on how the Flyers did this whole smear campaign I think they are a lot more at fault for souring the relationship than they’ve led on. Gauthier just said to them, “I don’t want to be a flyer or I’m not signing” and there is no wrong in that at all. He has that right, he can stay in college all 4 years and become a free agent as well. He has that right and he owes a team nothing. They are the ones that drafted him just because he plays hockey. He has no obligation to the city or the organization. And the audacity of them to act like he feels privileged is insane. He’s the one who put in the work to be a top 5 selection in the NHL. Not the fat money pocket lining suits.

This should be a disgrace to the Philadelphia organization. And even if he didn’t like torts he has that right as well. And he was honest with them and told them. He could’ve lied all 4 years and they would have gotten nothing.

    This isn’t right.

  16. if what is being said is true about what happened, I as a Flyers fan am happy that we traded him. I know he is talented and all but he is not the second coming of Wayne Gretzky or anything. Truly shows he has no patience and is still really immature. He would have been a huge part of the Flyers team for many years. I do like what we got back in Drysdale though.

  17. Out of respect for the flyers ‘ he should give them the reason why he don’t want to play for them’ obviously there’s a reason

  18. OMG he was drafted at 18..EIGHTEEN! We gotta remember how young that is. There is a reason the Blackhawks gave Connor Bedard a large 50Yr old "body man" to escort him around. Mature or not, at 18 he's unsophisticated and way too young to take on a scrum of 8 or 10 reporters every time he enters or leaves a rink. Hey y'all, did any of you do something at 18 that you regretted at 21 or 25 or 40? I find you (and me) guilty as charged.

  19. Being from Philly, my first thought is his reason was not wanting to live in or near the city. I moved to Vegas recently and should’ve done it as a teenager myself when I trained in the Mojave Desert while in the military. A world of difference to me and I fell in love with the desert immediately. I love Philly for it being the birthplace of this country, however it’s fallen very far from those glory days.
