C’est agréable de voir les statistiques sous-jacentes raconter une histoire positive, cela me rend plus confiant que nous soyons de retour.

I get that it’s a stat, but should anyone really be expecting more than 2 goals against Winnipeg at this point?

I don’t understand or have put much effort in learning much of the stats beyond superficial knowledge. But I have wondered if there was maybe some sort of reason that we can’t quantify in coaching systems that would allow for the percentages in PDO to be inflated.

Like alot of the games you look at the score board and we’re winning say 1-0 and they have 9 shots on net and we have 3.

I just wonder if maybe it’s a combination of the system we’re playing not giving up good shot/opportunities, our depth/skill/offensive structure being able to break the opponent’s system to give us stronger goal opportunities where they’re capitalizing on opportunities more efficiently.

It’s fun to meme about pdo to the moon, but I do wonder if there’s just something that isn’t being quantified that is causing pdo to look so inflated.

u/artemchubarov is this something you have ever considered? I’m genuinely curious, but like I’ve mentioned I don’t know the the advanced stats very well.

I wonder if we can attribute any of this to Soucy. Team does seem much more structurally functional when he’s in the lineup. Underrated stabilizing element? Seemed like we were running Cole into the ground during his absence.

There any stats for ozone possession time? that could tell the story that we are driving a lot of play and being super selective on actual shots.

I saw a video about how the Jets are applying their high pressure model, and it’s the same as virtually every team in the league, it’s just that some are better at it than others.

Canucks this year seem to be very good, and that’s because Tocc has established consistency in a way that few past Canucks coaches have been able to. Heck, if you look at the two previous most successful coaches during the WCE (Crawford) and Sedin Era (Vigneault), even those teams had to rely on some run and gun because their defensive structures weren’t the best.

Even Tortorella who’s universally flogged here, I think he tried to do the same thing that Tocc is doing, the difference is that the roster was much more mature/older thus more difficult to ingrain new fundamental habits, and Torts came in scorched earth.

If you compare to now, relatively speaking the roster is much younger overall, and Tocc has a much more refined touch when it comes to relating to players and getting onto their level. I also believe the coaching hires of Foote and Gonchar are so key to all of this.

Edit: It helps that this team has so much depth and talent at key positions that we can afford to have Kuzmenko not repeat 39 goal status and STILL be leading the league in goal differential.

I’m so confused by this. The xGA for all these teams is way below the average GA in the league (except SJS lol). Do power plays add THAT much?

The Canucks ice 7 guys who can play center. Jimmy and Patrick knew what they were doing
