  1. So we need veteran leadership with pedigree right? So we trade Tarasenko to get someone like Tarasenko? If they re-up him yes.

  2. Dollars don't work, unless we move one of our younger core players. I think this is the biggest hurdle.

  3. Unforunately they have to move some core pieces. That said, I think a forward and a defence man so they can restructure. Add more size on right side of "D" and more tenacity on front. That that could mean Norris and Chabot. It also means they would be able to try to sign Taresenko.

  4. This is what I see. Tarasenko, not resigning and Staios shouldnt push to resign him. You cant just plug your top 6 with a bunch of goal scorers and cant do much else right. It makes you too predictable and far too easy to play against. You need grit, and that is what we lack, especially on the 4th line. There's no sandpaper at all. Even the third line has little sandpaper. As much as people like Chartier, and ya he's an upgrade to Kastellic, he only has 2 points in his last 26 games. That wont get it done at all. Kubalik has 12 points in 38 games, and is a -14. Kastellic also has 2 points in 24 games. Parker Kelly 7 points in 38 games. Chabot, 9pts in 16 games. Its Ok, but not 8M dollars ok. The goaltending, Im flat out just not even going there. Josh Norris, 20pts in 33 games. Its not 8M dollars worthy. The issue is the complete dumpsterfire created by Pierre Dorion. This is what happens when you don't use the RFA status to its fullest. Do you pay more for some of those guys in the end, sure, but within the RFA you see exactly what you have before signing a long-term extension. On top of that, the money you get comes with a higher expectation, and within that lies our problem. Chabot never lived up to his worth of 8M per at any point. Kubalik, who was the key piece in the Debrincat trade, which Dorion gave up a ton to get, no where near close lived up to the hype. Signing Tarasenko, which overcrowded the right wing position to the degree we had a line of all right wingers and no grit at all, mirrored last season's 2nd line. We need a legitimate left winger on the 2nd line, not another right hander, and in the end, Staios cant do much with the cap except trading, and will once again thanks to Dorion, will have little leverage in a trade just to get some breathing room, thanks to all these long term contracts given to players way too early in their careers, how do you move them without giving up something important? This is who I focus on moving:

Tarasenko, Kubalik, Kastellic, Chabot, Norris, Brannstrom (in place of Kleven, and has increased his trade value over the last 2 seasons), MacEwen, Forsberg

Restock the prospect pool and brings guys up from the farm who bring a lot of grit that can win the puck battles and gets the offense going, and can help with the PK. After that, Staios needs to talk to Giroux to see what he wants to do after next season, if he wants to stay and sign an extension or wants to go for a cup. What Giroux wants to do could be the driving factor whether or not Tarasenko gets re-signed or traded. Im only saying could, and could contradict the first line in my post.

  5. Trading players because they have good trade value is stupid… it means they are good players. Obviously if Tarasenko won't stay then trade him before the deadline, but if we can keep him at a fair price for 2 years, absolutely re-sign him!

He's one of the few playing consistently well & not in the 8M club. Compared to Norris he has more points per game despite having 3rd line minutes and partners and has a +10 compared to Norris's -6. He just looks way stronger on the ice finishing checks and can be way faster and grittier than people think.
