Doug Gilmour was here for a much shorter stint than people remember. Leafs with more games played include Kulemin, Phaneuf, Stajan, Damphousse, and Ponikarovsky

For super popular, Doug Gilmour. Only played 4 full seasons in Toronto (one of which was shortened due to a lockout) and 2 partial seasons (year he was acquired and the year he was traded away. Also played ~~1 shift~~ 8 shifts in 2003) but is many older fans all-time favourite.

    For me probably Patrick Marleau.

  4. Murky-Smoke

Gary Roberts, Joe Nieuwendyk, Owen Nolan, and Mogilny

I was gonna say uncle Leo but he did play 5 seasons with us now that I looked it up. It felt more like 2

  6. Clugaman

I can’t believe no one has mentioned Eric Lindros yet

The man behind the shoutout rule change, Mikhail Grabovski

For me personally, Brian Leetch. I love that dude. I wish we had him for more than 15 games or whatever it was.

Overall definitely Dougie. He is in most fans’ top 5 most popular Leafs of all time and played here less than 400 games.

Jeff O’Neill seems to milk the Leaf alumni thing even though he was only with the team the last two years of his career.

  10. Wayne Gretzky almost signed with the Leafs, but Ballard didn’t want to because Leaf games already sold out and couldn’t make more money because of the signing. So while this doesn’t align with the initial OP question, this one stings the most.

Reading this makes you wonder if the Leafs have a special knack for bringing in people who had success elsewhere, and then come to the Leafs once their best years are behind them.

Jacques Plante. I’d be willing to bet many (most?) Leafs fans don’t realise he played for Toronto.

Doug Gilmour played elsewhere longer. Was more important to the lore of other franchises, won a cup elsewhere but Leafs fan claim him because he was the one brief bright spot after like 20 Ballard years of suffering

No one here mentioned Dmitri Yushkevich. Guy was an absolute unit.

    Borschevsky »

  16. I’m a big fan of Colton Orr, although he did not so much on the team beside crush a couple skulls ☠️

I haven’t seen him mentioned, top-notch goalie Bernie Parent. He played 65 games over 2 seasons and 8 playoff games. For the older people like me that saw him play with the Leafs, his most memorable moment was in the playoffs a brawl broke out and a member of the opposite team ( Philadelphia Douchebags?) threw his mask into the crowd. My memory is foggy so I don’t know if he ever got it back.

For me, Tim Brent for that one shift against Carolina

  19. My personal favourite Leaf that only had a brief stint with the team would be Jumbo Joe.

Mostly because I grew up in the same town as him and when I was a kid I knocked on his door for an autograph while he was the captain of the Bruins.
