  1. Dangle keeps saying it too, they can get paid in other ways in Toronto, partnerships and promos and shit, people pay stupid money for Leafs to appear in commercials, they can market that.

  2. Nazem Kadri was suspended again in the playoffs for Colorado in 2021, 8 games. But he did win a cup the next year without a suspension, if memory serves

  3. If Toronto bombs badly in the 1st round of the playoffs, or worse yet, don't even make the playoffs, then Keefe in all likelihood will get the axe.

  4. I'm always surprised at how much crap is heaped at the goalie's feet. the team isn't winning, it's the goalie's fault. there are too many quality chances, it's the goalies fault. the team isn't scoring enough, it's the goalies fault…..yes there is some sarcasm there, but really I felt like Freddie got dumped on a lot. it's a team sport guys! that being said, I'm frustrated with the slide as much as any fan. I remember very well how many people unloaded on MAF who I always loved (still do!)

  5. I wonder every year if the media has any effect on the mental game. they seem a bit extra in Toronto.

  6. Apparently, Toronto’s second half schedule is one of the toughest of all the teams, they could conceivably lose the next 5 games: Calgary, Vancouver, Seattle and Winnipeg twice- 4 of 5 on the road…..

  7. Kudos for putting these stats together in an understandable fashion. The time you must have spent to put this together is unthinkable but thank you!

  8. This is going to sound stupid simple. But if you want to get paid, go to Toronto, if you want to win you have to go somewhere else. Not enough money for elite goalies and talented depth. They let Lafferty go because they can't afford depth.

  9. This Leafs team (the core 4) reminds me of West Coast Express Era Canucks. Razzle dazzle during the regular season and then rollover and die come playoffs.

  10. will firing keefe solve everything no but the more I hear him talk the more I look at his decision making and the way the team plays under him tells me part of the problem is the coach is totally clueless. He's constantly praising them when they play awful, when they lost to Columbus in the play in round and missed the playoffs he said he had no idea what went wrong. I guarantee you every single other coach in the league could tell exactly what went wrong. He should have been fired then and there but he's admitted cluelessness several times since. Sheldon "I tried nothing and am out of ideas" Keefe.

  11. I love you but you’re wrong. Kadri was suspended in the playoffs as an Av two years ago. It broke my heart and we lost to Dallas.

  12. Toronto needs to turn off player fatigue. That way they can just play four forwards and a defenseman for the entire game.

  13. I never understood why so many fans dumped on Andersen whenever the Leafs lost.

I'm not sure what people expected out of Domi & Bertuzzi. I think they make for a nice 3rd pairing on offense, but they're not going to put-up great numbers during the regular season as long as "the core four" are chewing-up all the ice-time. IF the Leafs make the playoffs, I wouldn't be surprised to see Domi & Bertuzzi being a big part of the team making a solid run.

If it were up to me, I would give Matthews the "C". It's his team, so it's time for him to be the leader on & off the ice.

  14. YOU WILL NOT WIN WOTHOUT A DEFENSIVE CORE!!!!! Look at every Stanley cup winner for the last 20 years……Canadian teams do this and wonder why they don’t win.
Who is the best Defemsemen to play for a Canadian team in their prime,? Who was their partner who was the second pairing? And who was the grinder line that stops goals, those are what win you cups not top 4 forwards sorry but it’s true

  15. Tavares was at a point per game pace until recently. I am not sure the "he's old" narrative is really all that strong at this point. I mean, it's coming! But, he has been maintaining the same pace for the most part since coming here.

  16. Honestly being a Leafs fan is just depressing.

Discard the fact that 1967 and overpaid contracts. Just the amount of hate you face for supporting your team on the ice with the amount of hate you get from other fans for doing so?

I just wish players could help us not hurt us

  17. I'd like to see a different stat on the core players. Corners Seen per 60 Minutes Played

You can put up all the points you want, but the playoffs don't play like the regular season. I'd also like the laugh of seeing their points per 60 minutes played in playoff hockey. That would be good for a laugh, to see the cliff they fall off of.

This team is rotten…………. to the core 5. Too much money ballooned into 5 players, and the rest is like too little butter, spread over too much bread.

I look forward to seeing them get embarrassed again in the playoffs. Assuming they even make it. Hungrier teams beneath them.

  18. They don't just need 1 top 4 defenceman. They need 2 top pair defenceman that are solid and can do everything well. This team is so quick to bury goaltenders when their top RD is Brodie. He needs to be on your bottom pair. So many holes again this year. And a whole new team next year again. It's mind boggling.

  19. Even as a Detroit fan, I feel the Leafs should be a lot further in their Stanley Cup venture. I would also go as far to say that Bertuzzi is prob overpaid and is being asked of too much there. Def 2nd line quality player, but not great chemistry and “supporting” players on his line, despite the offensive capability. Under a different coach, different system he does remarkably better imo.

  20. Shannon your videos are some of the most amazing things I've ever seen. Not sure where your ideas come from but I know you make your own observations about these statistics. I mean you are an excellent data communicator, finding trends in the numbers and breaking them down for normal people to understand. It's high level shit. You are appreciated by so many people and we all look forward to your videos for years to come! Thank you for all that you do. I watch you more than I do game highlights on NHLs official YouTube channel. Your setup is old school and your content is fascinating. So thank you again.

  21. They might be worth that much individually, but the biggest issue is the salary cap and that this is a team sport.

  22. As a Leafs fan, I gotta say that blowing a lead is always a fear. Doesn't matter if they're up by 3, 4, or 5 goals. The moment the other team scores, I know the comeback is on

  23. The Leafs are a joke. Never have i shut off so many games in a year. To the point i dont even turn it on for late games. Nylander needed to GO. Tre hasnt addressed the team needs since he came to twon. We needed defence and a goalie before he came here we still need defence and a goalie how many game in. They cant beat the lesser lights of the NHL for years with no consequences. Keefe can't motivate, the defensive system clearly doesnt work, but as long as you score goals doesnt win you hockey games. All that Nylander $ could of had us two d atleast

  24. Toronto isn't gonna fall that low brother the same way they lost 4 they have shown they can win 4 so i mean we could be singing an entirely different tune next week with a win streak lets not go overboard here.

  25. My theory on the Leafs:

They're the very best version of what the Buffalo Sabres or Ottawa Senators hope to be. All flash and no ass. This is why the Leafs have struggled to win one playoff series in 6 seasons.

Could a successful PLAYOFF roster be built from the combined rosters of Toronto, Buffalo, and Ottawa? I say no.

  26. The Leafs play defense the same way I see my Buffalo Sabres play defense: all five men stare at the puck and lose track of opposition players. I don't care how many goals AM34 scores. If you play D like that you lose in the NHL playoffs 90% of the time.

  27. Just watched analysis from a handful of different people and even more so than TSN this is the most comprehensive and enlightening work I’ve seen so far on the leafs’ troubles.

  28. As an Avs fan, the only thing stopping us from winning the cup again is needing a top tier goalie

  29. 15:33 Not winning enough in regulation does make a difference in the standings. Especially, when the first tiebreaker is # of regulation wins. So if they were to finish tied with Wings and Bolts at, say 92 points for third in the division and the last WC spot, and those teams have 38 regulation wins and the Leafs have 31, it's the Leafs who are on the outside looking in. And when you consider how many leads they've blown that allows their games to be forced to OT, in which they were saved by 3-on-3 or the skills competition, that's a bad sign come playoff time. It shows that the Leafs don't know how to close down games in which they have the lead. And in the playoffs, in OT, there's no 3-on-3 or skills competition to bail them out.

  30. The root issue is ownership. Teams are generally owned by individuals who have some ego. These owners want to win championships. Toronto is owned by a corporate conglomerate whose goal is to make money. The Core 4 put fans in the seats. Sellouts and merchandise sales are the aim. Fans want to see superstars on their team and the Leafs have them.
Duba’s contract was going to be extended because MLSE said his body of work merited an extension. This clearly shows what MLSE prizes. A Cup win is merely incidental and not that important.
This is why the Leafs are built the way they are.

  31. Avalanche fan here…uh, ur Kadri information is incorrect. He actually was suspended in 2021 playoffs for a hit he laid down in the St. Louis series. Without a doubt, that cost us that series and a shot at the Cup. That was actually the last time he was suspended. He followed that with a career year 89 points and was instrumental in that Cup win 🏆

  32. Hey Shannon. Did you play the second U.S. Border Agent in the last episode of “ The Americans “? Lot of loonies riding on your answer.

  33. Very poor roster construction – not enough balance. I don’t think Keefe is a very good coach either. No coach in the league is easier to coach against but firing Keefe isn’t the answer and won’t fix the problems. I don’t know how they get out of this mess they’re in right now 🤷‍♂️

  34. Management should watch this video
i mean Shanny and the owners shareholder Bell / Rogers

Money trapped team. i said from day one when they paid JT that much, you open the door for others to ask for fortune, Hyman is biggest example, the guy worked his butt off.

  35. Hockey Guy, I think you forgot to mention that the last time the Leafs were shut out was back on November 20, 2021. They have the longest streak for not being shut out than any other team.

  36. "Kadri hasn't been suspended in the playoffs since…" In your zeal to dump on the Leafs and their fans, you conveniently forgot about Kadri's 8 GAME SUSPENSION against Justin Faulk – first round 2021. But sure go on about how the Leafs and their fans are all wrong because hey 4 game losing streak. Not sure if I'll watch the last half – just anti-Leaf crap disguised as analysis

  37. Making a wild card spot is very bad. Statistically, your best chances to win a cup are to be in the top 4 seeds, and your next best odds are in the top 8 seeds. The further you go down, the rarer it gets historically for teams in those seed positions to win a Stanley cup – some of the lower seeds, even if they made the finals, have never actually done in many, many decades. The Leafs are definitely not contenders and I don't think there is a 1 or 2 moves they could make to become one.
