1. If petty is too greedy he will get moved as the OEL cap penalty handcuffs the Canucks for a few years. however i see a deal getting done unless Petty would like to be elsewhere. Kuzmenko has to be moved at this point for a young prospect or active player not making a lot. I would be OK moving him for a veteran D like Taniff at the deadline or another D veteran elsewhere but this is just a rental for this year.

  2. He said he wanted the wait until the offseason and not have his contract be a distraction, y'all are literally making it a distraction. He is an RFA, canucks can match all offers, he cannot leave this offseason. Time to find something else to talk about and stop trying to push this guy out the door with this crap.

  3. There's an assumption here that the Canucks are handing him a blank cheque but maybe that is not the case. Also, Benning and Aquilini flexed on Pettersson on the first contract. Now Pettersson may be flexing on Aquilini. I don't think Benning was able to get in front of all of the bullets for Aquilini mistakes.

  4. Just a hunch, but maybe EP40 would rather sign in the off-season in order to avoid his mega-contract becoming a talking point during what could be a deep playoff run. And maybe he'll base how much term he commits to based on their playoff performance.

  5. Why does it always have to be an expert from outside the market that brings that brings some sanity to the Pettersson discussion? If Petey had signed when everyone started pestering him how much money would he have walked away from? It's only smart to cash any asset at the highest point as he is doing.

  6. canucks simply cannot overpay anybody at this point. use him till the end of the season, and trade him for picks. simple as that

  7. Not a really big deal, the media likes to make a mountain out of a mole hill. The Canucks got control of his services for this year and at least one more year if they chose to resign him. As much as i like Petey and what he brings to the table this year has proved to me that Milsy is a more important player, in fact Petey hasn't really played all that great until they moved him to Milsy's line. Paying him the kind of stupid money the media talks about is just like letting Toronto take over the negotiations. Their kind of way way way overpaying their star players is just getting worse and the effects of those stupid contracts hasn't even kicked in yet, wait till next year, lol. In my opinion the Canucks should offer Petey a contract that reflects his minimum qualifying offer of 8.82 million for 8 years and see if there are any teams stupid enough to pay him Stupid Toronto money, and if so take the 4 first round firsts and the big cap space. Four firsts and that much cap space is worth way more than Petey. They can always just go out and get another free agent center for a 2c and they will be just fine.

  8. The Aquilinis have always wanted a quick fix, so there's obvious pressure there on Rutherford and Allvin. Add to that how well the team is playing and there will be a great temptation for management to almost sell the farm on rentals and older players if they can squeeze them under the cap to try to make a run this year. I agree with Frank. As for Kuzmenko, he could be a huge asset in the playoffs if other lines aren't producing as long as they're not stupid enough to kill his confidence. We'll see. It's make or break time.

  9. If he wanted to stay he would of signed simple stop making excusses he is not happy here or he would of been captain😢

  10. I think there are a few things to consider
    – He said in august that he wanted to wait until after the season to talk contract, why is everyone surprised that he isnt signed yet?
    – When he said just before the season, I believe, that he wanted to wait and see the "direction" of the team before he decided to resign or not, someone from management said to reporters, if he isnt sure that he wants to resign, we are not sure we want to sign him. So its kind of a mixed message
    – I dont think that he wants to play on the wing in the long term, and if the Canucks wants to play him there, I think its a bad move and could impact his decision to resign

  11. Simple stuff. They sign him in the offseason to a 5-8 year contract or they trade him for a boatload. Either way it's a good thing. Let the guy play it out. That's his right. He doesn't want the distraction. The last contract negotiation screwed his season.

  12. I want to see the Canucks bring in some proven postseason bottom 6 performers. Though not necessarily these guys, Garnet Hathaway / Sam Bennett type players.

  13. Pettt is very close to hurting the team. Not there yet but you look at moving him by end of Feb. He wanted something better. He has got that so far to date. Pretty soon you have to think he looking to go elsewhere. Nice to see himm sign but someone has to say enough. Not there yet but just around the corner. trade him to ottawa if he doesnt come around..

  14. To me, Tanev is the only piece I really want. If Zadorov was gotten for a 3rd and a 5th, I see no reason why Tanev, being much older, much more injury prone, and for sure not resigning with Calgary, should cost much more than that.

If in the Canucks I find a third team to swing a deal and bring the cap hit down as much as possible, and run with an 8 man defensive unit of

    LD RD
    Hughes – Hronek
    Soucy – Tanev
    Zadorov – Myers
    Cole – Juulsen

In the playoffs, bodies in the backend drop like flies. You need 8 or 9 guys to go deep for 2 months.

  15. Pettersson wants line mates. Keep him with Miller and Boeser and he’ll sign. If his future is Michaeve and Kuzmenko it’s bye bye.

  16. I've been saying it for quite sometime now..
Elias Pettersson DOES NOT want to sign long term in Vancouver! The writing is on the wall, clear as day!

  17. He doesn't want to talk about it during the season. Just wants to focus on hockey.
So let's talk about it everyday and show him.
    Every shows top topic.
Take a break guys… Maybe till off season.
Or better yet a game seven of a playoff series.

  18. I dont think Petey wants to stay in Vancouver long term… Tage, JJ Peterka and Owen Power for Petey and a 2nd would make us a better team for years to come and you dont have to dump 13mill to one player all would be well a tough decision like the Bo one but a proper one

  19. If the give Kuzi, their first and a B prospect for Guentzel and the Penguins accept then we’re a wagon. If not then you don’t go all in. You can’t give up your A prospects.

  20. It's hard to believe the sports media gang in Vancouver has yet to learn Elias Pettersson is a very patient guy who doesn't bend to media pressure or the will of external interests including team management. When it's the right time and the right deal Petey will TCB and not before.

  21. EP40 wants to end up in Tampa and that’s why they’re not signing stamkos to have the salary cap

  22. Really don’t understand the media attention around a guy who said from the start during the season he only wants to worry about playing hockey- this horse was beaten dead months ago

Does Pettersson have to publicly repeat that again?

There’s literally no rush…. everyone who’s waiting for it to happen needs to get over it and wait until the offseason. Pettersson wants to focus on hockey and fans should be thankful that’s where his focus is right now.

  23. I'm old enough to remember Pavel Bure leaving. Clouded in mystery at to why exactly. It was just a cold hardness in his media scrums. The media was a big part of him wanting to get out. They had journos camped outside Bure's home. It was some dark times. Anyone else getting that feeling again? Or am way off?

  24. If it all goes bad ( and folks all is well, he WILL resign here ) but IF he won't then the trade should be to try to weasel Jack Hughes from the Devils and you can work on Luke at a later date. All 3 Hughes brothers secures our Captain and the best Defenceman in Canucks history here for life. So Jack for Elias Pettersson… the details to be worked out we won't bother speculating on what else is needed to make it happen. Frankly, if I were NJ I'd jump at getting EP40 for Hughes

  25. id be crushed if we traded lekkerimaki. i dont care who we get back. its already a bad deal.

  26. get us a 2c or a 3c and #4-5 defenseman. Pete is fine, LEAVE BRITTNY ALONE… he'll sign and won't rip us off.
