Big contract for Protas and huge commitment to the youth in Washington. Locking up a 23 year old to a 5 year extension is phenomenal.
Hopefully his ice time improves next year once some of the veterans get cleared out and the youth moves up the depth chart.

Said it before, but I think of all the younger players currently on the roster (CMM and Lapierre,) Protas has the highest upside not just due to his versatility, but also his skill set. I really think he’s a Viktor Kozlov clone. He’s been a revelation under Carbery. As they start phasing out some of the older players, he’ll get a fantastic chance to up his PT and production. Can’t wait to see what he can do in an expanded role.
