  1. Roy quit because he really doesn't need to be a NHL coach if he does not want to. He can always go back to the Remparts which will make him money, plus he has his cup rings as well. He probably only wants to coach in the NHL if he knows he can acquire more rings from it. Islanders have a great goalie tandem and some good pieces. Maybe the team just needs someone who knows how to win to take them to the next level. Goaltending is everything in the playoffs, Patrick Roy and his career is a great example of that in of itself.

  2. Can't wait for Roy to get in the face of lackluster play. Don't know why this team, at times, looks like world beaters, only to follow it up with bad losses to bad team (e.g. Blackhawks, Sharks). The Anders Lee experiment is over. Where's the leadership? Where's the consistent goal scoring? Where is the shutdown D? Sorokin can't do it all. And Barzal is obviously being put on notice: HE NEEDS TO SCORE MORE GOALS. Arguably the softest All-Star in the league. It's not his fault, he's small in stature. But he disappears too often. Something has to give.

  3. Flyers fan here. I gotta say though… I'm happy for Patrick Roy. Dude might be a lightning rod, but there is a reason the very mention of his name perks up everyone's ears. He's a legend, and good at what he does, despite any stories told by the stats. Not sure if it's "too little, too late" or not, but I'd be lying if I said that it isn't making me nervous lol. This season, man… smh, it's gonna go on the books as one to remember!

  4. The New York Islanders are a better run organization than the Toronto Maple Leafs

….and so are the Arizona Coyotes

  5. Roy was confirmed as lane’s replacement five days after lane was told privately that he would be removed. Most coaching contracts no longer allow an interim coach to be selected upon a coach’s firing.

  6. As an Islanders fan who fell in love with hockey watching Patrick Roy and the Avalanche in 2001, this makes me so happy. It's a high risk move, but given where they are in their cycle, I like taking this risk.

  7. As an Avs fan, all I can say is good luck with that? He was part of the chain that brought us a cup, but…

  8. Other than his partnership with Bourque in 00-01, I am a Roy hater, Bs Fan, we should have had that cup in 93, anyways, I fear this guy as a coach, he has what it takes.

  9. This is the worst situation possible … for the leafs. Roy should have come here. We needed that type of coach with that type of game knowledge to push this team forward. So sad we got left out of this and are now likely stuck with Keefe or Berube?

  10. Roy at least seems to hate losing. Something the Leafs coaching staff and management could learn a lot from.
