5 years of 1st round failure and overpaying players, why is there no big changes in the front office??
Leafs vs Florida 1st round of the playoffs. They lose 2 in florida, come back to toronto win the first one but lose the second one. They go back to florida for game 5 with everyone saying this team needs to be torn down and end up winning that. Game 6 is a come from behind victory that they shouldn't have won. Going into game 7 everyone thinks they can't do it.. Florida chokes and Toronto takes it easily. All Leafs players go to center ice and in unison pull the imaginary monkey off their backs.. they go on to beat Tampa, Carolina and make it to the Cup Final. In the West, Hyman/McDavid/Draisaitl have shocked the hockey world with their best season since Gretzky/Messier/Kurri.
This is all because Toronto has FOUR forwards making $40mil every year, that's half the salary cap. So every year the Leafs have to dumpster dive for these bargain bin players and hope they pan out, and if someone over-performs on a contract year, they don't have cap space to pay them properly. Morgan Reilly's contract is coming up, and he's gonna be an 8 or 9mil cap hit next year which Toronto won't pay…
I've been a fan of this team forever. Bleed the Blue and White. But this Team…….oy the pain. 4th in the Atlantic is fair based on the division. D is solid. Forward group needs to depth to produce in ADDITION to the star players. Goaltending is the only concern I have here. Bottom line is this. Regular Season does not matter. Matthews can break all the records he wants. It is all about the playoffs. You know it, I know it, the entire hockey universe knows it. Leaf fans are still bitter about the collapse of the North. This team will need to EARN its fans back. If they have a garbage season or get bounced 1st round again then you need to imagine Dubas and maybe even as high as Shanny will be tossed and major changes will need to happen to this team. I certainly hope it does not come to that. The talent to win is HERE. Just F#$%ing DO IT ALREADY! Go Leafs Go!

toronto is a good team, but for years people in toronto are told they are the best team in the league, you keep saying too bad they play tampa or boston, but they would lose to islander capitals or penguins as well, i mean, caps and pens are going downwards but over the last 5 years it wouldn't have mattered if they moved to metro

The only thing I'd say about the line kinda predictions is that thinking Mikhayev is a top 6, unless he has severely upped his shot/hands, just aint it. Also I'd love to see both Ho-Sang and Mrazek have great years, been big on both those guys since their junior days. Personally I see the lines breaking down more like this:
Nylander – Matthews – Marner
Ritchie – Tavares – Kerfoot
Robertson – Engvall – Ho-Sang
Kampf – Spezza – Simmonds
Extras: Kase, Brooks
Rielly – Brodie
Muzzin – Holl
Sandin – Liljegrin
Extras: Dermott, Biega
Mrazek
Campbell
Plenty of C depth and either Robertson or Ho-Sang could overachieve and make top 6 and honestly I think thats a really strong top 6 in D as well

They needed some nastiness and all they have is wayne simmonds. He cant do it all. Weak on defense and goaltending and their you have it. another year with no success and lots of payroll.

Ho-Sang didn’t really stick out in any way in the SHL so I have trouble seeing him in the Toronto top 4 lines

Maple Leafa = 4 excellent forwards, the rest of the forwards don't impress anyone. 2 good defenders, and overrated goalies. So, everything relies on 5 or 6 players to create an attack. I predict a beginning of decline for the leafs this season.
It's interesting…the Leafs had more points last year than both Boston and Tampa…oddly enough, Florida had the most points of the 4 teams. It will be an interesting year in the Atlantic.
