  1. Man and nobody’s brought up yet, that if what most are speculating is the case. McLeod and foote also have siblings in the game. The repercussions from this are gonna be wild

  2. WE DON’T NEED MORE TEAMS.

The league is way too watered-down and the game is suffering because of it. Too many bad teams w/ too many fringe players (at best) with no hope of competing with contenders, or even bubble teams.

The scheduling is brutal enough as it is, w/ so many back-to-back games. Injuries are clobbering clubs and fans still pay outrageous prices to see weak hockey so many nights w/ top-shelf skaters on the shelf.

  3. The way Briere threw Cutter Gauthier under the bus, another player Carter Hart has issues. Coincidence I think not. Sounds like mental games going on in Philly.

  4. I know it's been a crazy news day, but no note on the Marty Walsh interview in The Athletic? That's a pretty damning interview of the Coyotes and likely why the Utah news popped up today. Don't be surprised if the Yotes relocate to Utah next season. Said Utah announcement was NOT a counter to the SA news, but the Marty Walsh interview.

  5. Nipping the problem in the bud, would be letting the Coyotes move. Then you don't worry about any expansion issues. The Coyotes are mid way through the 3 year lease with Mullett. I'm sure they can stay there until the rink in Utah gets built. As as you say it would be easy to stay in the division. And it saves Houston and Quebec City for expansion. Everyone wins.

  6. Are people in SLC clamoring for a NHL team? I understand Houston and Atlanta since they're huge untapped cities, but Salt Lake City would be a bottom 5 market in terms of population and I never hewr anything hockey related there (ECHL team, pro players growing up there, etc). I thought Las Vegas was an odd choice too and I was wrong, so what do I know? Feels like there's a reality before 2040 where there's 36 teams in the league (SLC, Houston, Atlanta, Quebec City) and an 84 game season schedule. The league isn't turning down billions in expansion fees.

  7. Mrazek seems to be a goalie meant to get teams through transition periods, I liked him as a Wing, and he's stepped up for that Hawks who need his talents most

  8. as a guy who moved from vancouver to slc last year, it blew my mind how many hockey fans are here. people love sports here, but especially hockey. its a winter sport market like denver or Minnesota or calgary for example. people love skiing and skating and hockey here tons.

  9. While the league usually isn't very quick to act on expansion, I think talks with prospective owners in prospective markets has been happening since before Seattle was granted their franchise in 2018. The new teams, much like the Kraken, might not begin play for a few years, but expansion is coming. The NHL press release response to the Utah Jazz owners even said they've been talking "for the past two years". That's a long time to be in a discussion with zero forward movement. Using that same married life kind of example, if you're talking to someone about getting married to them for two years with no forward movement, one wouldn't fault you for what is essentially "Marriage now?"

The Smiths might have spoken out-of-turn, and the NHL response being more along the lines of "shh, hang on just a little longer", but I think we'll see franchises granted before 2030.

  10. Continually asking for an expansion team reminds me of the episode of The Simpsons, where Bart and Lisa kept asking Homer "Are We There Yet?" with Homer getting more and more pissed off 😂.

  11. The Barclay Center is a good example of how hockey games don't work in an arena that was built exclusively for NBA games and not NHL ones as well.

  12. As someone who's spent quite a bit of time in Salt Lake, Utah would be a great hockey market. It's a young and up-and-coming city.

Also, you better be wearing a MacKinnon jersey for tonight's game reviews!!!!

  13. I know with myself if you nag me to do something I am less likely to do it than if you like mt just do it on my own time

  14. I feel like if Utah gets a team then there’s another team coming shortly after just like Vegas with Seattle closely behind. Houston would probably be my vote, but depends on where you put both teams.

  15. If they're adding even more teams it's just an obvious cashgrab and they don't care about the sport at all. Why bother cheering for a team if they have next to no chance at a Cup?
