    3rd forward deep. When in the offencive zone, you have your forecheck. Depending on the state of the game, you may send one, two, or even three players deep.

    In this instance, the F3 is the forward not deep in the forecheck, sometimes called a 2 and a half man forecheck, where you have two forwards forechecking down behind the goal line, and your F3 around to be able to take a pass back if those forecheckers gain control or even pinch down if needed to make it a 3 and forecheck.

    Defence tend to straddle the F3 so that its harder for the defence to get the puck freely out of the zone without the threat of icing.

    I’m not removing this post because as Sabres fans, we never do this so it’s obvious it’s an unfamiliar concept, like a winning Streak, or playoffs.
