Thought debrusk was a Dman for some reason this whole time
Odd-Elderberry-6137
Yep. This was peak Chiarelli.
M0D_0F_MODS
Oh rub it in…
The worst part is that the people that made these picks are still very much employed a decade later.
I am still not over that draft and I don’t think I will ever be. And before a delusional Bruins fan points out how « dominant » the Bruins have been, fuck off. They haven’t won anything. Mostly due to lack of high end talent.
TheRealHulkPanda
Oilers traded that #16 pick to the Isles for defensive legend Griffen Reinhart
NickyShore
Now do all the teams that missed on Pastrnak in 2014 when we got him 25th overall.
eiileenie
And now I get blessed with isles thirst trap pics of Barzy so I’m happy
dollabillkirill
This was also one of the most stacked drafts of all time. Also drafted shortly after: Eriksson Ek, Boeser, Samsonov, Konecny, Aho, and (slightly later) Hintz

Debrusk was a bit of a reach but Zboril wasn’t a bad pick at the time. Senyshyn really makes the blemishes of the other two more noticeable. Barzal should have been a for sure pick for them. If they had taken Barzal at 14 and reached for Debrusk at 15, I think we would not laugh much at them for missing on Connor.

I love this for them.
MandogsXL
I guess missing one maybe 2 picks but Damn all 3 is tough scenes. Reason they didn’t win another cup
International-Elk986
They also got Marchand 71st overall and Pasta 25th. The draft is a crapshoot
WonDante
This one really hurts as a Bruins fan. The only silver lining really is that anybody could have missed on those picks. Bergeron, Krejci, Marchand, Swayman, none of them were first round picks! Obviously the Bruins could have done better here but they’ve drafted pretty damn well over the past 15ish years
Odd_Confusion2923
And even Debra’s is not in the same class as Connor or Barzal, not sure about Chabot. Who are their scouts?
Grinning_Dog
Yet they’re still winning games unlike the Sens and Islanders.
Took Winnipeg a while but they do finally look like the real deal.
Drafting 18 year olds is a complete crapshoot, you never know what’s going to happen. If you look at picks 14-16 every year you’re going to see a ton of busts.
loveseatjohnny
I’d say the Gurionov pick for Dallas was a success because of a single game against Colorado in the 2020 Stanley Cup Playoffs. Other than that he was mediocre.
AceConspirator
This is nearly 10 years old at this point. Is there a team in the league who hasn’t missed on two 1st round picks over the past decade?
Porkchopp33
We know it is brought up daily and we blew it
E8282
Was this the same draft where not a single one of the first round draft picks for Boston could do a single pull up?
Edit: just looked it up and they all failed the 300M sprints test.
It was other years where the bruins picks couldnt do pull ups.
Absolutely would have another cup if we hit on just one of those picks
rippinkitten18
But pastrnak at 27 and macavoy in 2016
turdburgalr
What?!? This is the first I’ve heard of this. Definitely has never been discussed in the Bruins subreddit. Sweeney must be stupid or something.
dr_van_nostren
They missed on a bunch of guys. It’s wild.
champdafister
Lol they could’ve been so stacked
YVRkeeper
I saw another post this morning wondering how scouts are evaluated.
This. This is how scouts are evaluated.
W1ckedaddicted
And they’re still first in the league without Bergeron or Krejci or Chara or Rask
ALLDAY617
Bruins have the #6 pick Zacha now and they got Carlo in the second in this draft so not as bad as it could’ve been . Still hurts tho
Valuable-Baked
Zboril had a chance to be a rotational D and was looking good in the NHL. Then he hurt his knee and we haven’t heard from him again
dumbthiccrick
Drafted Carlo in the second round in 2015
Arfguy
I have never seen a team fuck up so many draft opportunities and basically *give* away great players who have remained as competitive as the Bruins.
Imagine telling someone that these are the players that were not good enough for your roster:
Joe Thornton
Tyler Seguin
Dougie Hamilton
On top of missing out on players like:
Claude Giroux
Ryan Kessler
TJ Oshie
Ryan McDonagh
Jordan Eberle
Kyle Palmieri
Tanner Pearson
Whatever they see or don’t see, it’s clear they know how to remain competitive. Since winning their 2011 Cup, Bruins seem to be the only team that didn’t seem to rebuild. They drafted Bergeron and Krejci in back to back drafts in the second round and have been basically competitive every year.
Imagine having that many misses and still being one of the best teams in the NHL even now.
leaponover
Imagine how the Bruins would be if they hit on all three!
Shop-lift
Instant dynasty if we didn’t fuck this up
Smokiiz
Can’t win them all. Who knows if any of those players even pan out on the bruins. Barzal would’ve been buried in the depth chart for a centre. Chabot as well. Kyle Connor is the biggest miss for them, imo.
No-Bathroom7056
I think the interview process has a lot to do with the bruins selection process. They typically try to draft guys that they believe will grow to be “good bruins.” They must have liked something in the group they chose more so than the other three. Connor had some questions surrounding his signability at the time I do believe. I agree with not selecting barzal as I don’t believe his style matches the bruins play. I hate that we missed out on chabot though. They must have not liked something about him.
Zylavier
They also picked Pastrnak at like 25 or something
mixturebill
Never heard of this one before
SuperAFoods
weren’t most of these picks off the board too? like none of these guys were slated to go this high
commanderr01
Imagine how scary Boston would be with barzal chabot and especially Connor. Wow even the DeBrusk pick is a whiff considering what was taken just after
AcousticOcean26
As a Sabres fan, idk who you are but they be doin aight. Meanwhile….. hey did I mention I’m a Sabres fan?
Otis_B_Driftwood_778
they’ve faired pretty good after this draft. i really don’t know why people dwell on this so much

Thank goodness
And they’re still doing ok!
Kyle connor………
I’d send you debrusk for a warm, toasted sandwich
Yikes Chabot Connor and Barzal immediately after

Check this [video](https://youtu.be/1LXArAPuT0Y), it has the live footage of that Boston missed draft, epic!
