They are all fantastic players and I think you can fairly argue that McDavid and MacKinnon are better overall players than Kuch.
What I don’t understand in the Hart trophy discourse is any argument that either of those guys are more valuable to their teams than Kucherov is to Tampa this season. Kucherov is the most valuable and it’s not even really a debate in my opinion. There is no doubt in my mind that if you took him off this team, we’d be getting our top 10 pick back this summer. His ability to drive an entire offense by himself is insane to watch. If you take McDavid and MacKinnon off their respective teams, they’re both easily making the playoffs imo.

I mean, McDavid is still the best player in the NHL. Kucherov may be the best over the last 50 games but if they’re just rating the best players in the League overall, then I’d agree with McDavid being above Kucherov.
But having MacKinnon at #1 suggests that it’s not really that because McDavid is still indeed the better player than MacKinnon. So I don’t know. The hockey media is definitely doing whatever they can to minimize Kucherov’s Hart chances.

Unfortunately the narrative of him playing with the best talent and having the best goalie is still being told. We are no where near a playoff spot without Kuch this year but everyone still thinks we have talent out the ass and Vasy is a god. The first 50 games have not been that smooth lol
