  2. Everyone is talking about how losing Pavelski is what caused the Sharks to go down hill, but IMO it was a cumulative loss of leadership on the team that started before that. It began with a strategy of big trades to replace Joe Thornton and Patrick Marleau (who were rapidly aging out) that netted Evander Kane and Eric Karlsson, which was going to leave the team with a deficit from a leadership perspective when compared to Thornton and Marleau, no matter what. The year Pavelski left it was bad, but IMO it didn't really suck until Joe Thornton abandoned the sinking ship to head off to Toronto (what was he thinking?).

  3. As a Sharks fan.. I'm just glad they are FINALLY committed to the full rebuild, they should have started it a couple years earlier but I can be patient. The games are actually enjoyable now watching the kids develop rather than a couple years ago when the team just wallowed in the bottom 16 with no direction.

Also, I don't mean to suggest that SJ is full of fair weather fans, but I think after so many years of coming up short people just needed a break. Especially since the team fell off right when Covid started. Give it a few years and the Tank will be at 100% capacity again.

  4. So sad that this team never won a Cup in that long window of contention… I was really pulling for them back in 2016.

  5. as a sharks fan, im looking forward to the draft this year and next. People get mad about the return on the meier deal but look at how hes doing this season, not exactly lighting the lamp with the devils. as long as they keep stocking up on young players for the near-ish future, im happy. more players like smith, musty, eklund, mukhamadullin (who looked good in his NHL debut), etc. Decisions in the last few DW years really put them in a bad spot. Giving Evander Kane an extension was always a risk and a bad call. Imagine if they used that Evander Kane money on Pavelski AND had Erik Karlsson. Regardless, Grier seems to be taking a methodical approach and not rushing but not taking his time either. I like his stance on protecting and prioritizing getting picks for veterans too. If they ship out Granlund and Couture at the deadline for picks, I'd be amazed.

  6. I remember certain weeks years ago when I was convinced the sharks would finally be first on the power rankings. Now I’m shocked when they aren’t last! How times have changed.

  7. The Sharks were a competitive team for the longest time but just couldn't get it done. Four Conference Finals trips in the 2010s and a Cup Final in 2016. It all collapsed after the Blues defeated them in 2019. The rebuild will take a while.
