  1. It sounds so easy to fix the PP by moving Sid so why hasn't it happened? That's baffling to me. Seems like the players themselves (Sid, Geno, Jake, Karlsson, Eller) should be able to figure this out. Are their hockey smarts somehow affected by hockey culture that none of them feel comfortable making such a suggestion or is such thinking not reflected in what's referred to as having a high hockey IQ or one's ability to think the game? Or worse, has this collection of players plus coaches resulted in a group dynamic that is simply hockey "dumb".

  2. Life long pens fan here. I’d be fine with letting Sid, Geno and Letang finish out their careers together but this delusional “we think we can win” rhetoric is killing me. No they can’t. It’s over. They’re just saying this because they’re worried people won’t buy tickets. Can we just enjoy watching Sid finish out his career? I’d love to see Sid teaching all the young guns how to play when he’s 40. Just stop trading futures and acquire some. I’ll still go to games.

  3. I consider this like a retool, which is the route I think Kyle Dubas will take. He committed to trying to win when he went out last summer and acquired Erik Karlsson, so he's not going to do a complete 180 and just tear it all down and to your point DK, rebuilding in hockey is not the same in baseball, because of the salary cap the NHL has which makes it a level playing field.

With that being said, I don't think they will be aggressive buyers and trade away future 1st rd picks for rentals at the deadline, but I do see Kyle Dubas trying to retool the roster, especially this offseason given what contracts are coming off the books.

Anyone comparing The Penguins struggles when they went through a rebuild in the early to mid 2000s, cannot even compare the two to what a rebuild would look like now. If anyone remembers, the team also had filed for Chapter 11 Bankruptcy protection a few years earlier, and also had to payoff all creditors they owed money to. They are in much more stable and better financial position now than back then way more.

  4. Even a pseudo rebuild needs to include moving Malkin, even more so than Rust or Rakell, or it's not only "pseudo", it's half-hearted too. In the grander vision of winning a cup, Jake is more important to Crosby raising it again (with the Penguins anyway), more than is Geno.
