Tbh I kinda want to see Kakko leave as long as the return is good. Maybe he turns his career around and becomes want we thought he’d be somewhere else.
The problem isn’t the players it’s management and coaching that doesn’t allow them time they need , being in the minors. Or the right lines.
Don’t care at all what they do with this kid. He’s had every opportunity to show literally anything and has always fallen short. However Im certain the second he is traded he will transform into malkin in his prime.
I know for a fact calagay asked for 1st and othhman for lindholm minimum, Drury said absolutely no. Calgary also inquired about kakko. Talks went no where from there. This was last week or two
@lockedonrangersNHL – Jon – I think that's a measured and on point take on Kappo Kakko. I'm really hoping this coaching staff can get him to be more assertive and look more for his own shot, which, I believe, will open up the ice for him a bit. It's not as if you can't have more than one shooter or scorer on a line! As well, it's rare that a player's progression is a purely linear one. There are usually some ups and downs. He had an up last year and has, disappointingly, struggled to maintain this year.
I'm a bit unsure about your take on his RFA status and whether that's a perceived positive or negative. As an RFA with arbitration rights, he at least remains, to a decent extent, under team control (as opposed to a UFA). As well, while we'd all rather see him play better and tear it up, his under-performance this year could mean they can sign him at a reasonable number, since his case will be weaker for a raise, allowing them to get another year or two to see how he pans out before hitting UFA. Perhaps this will give them the luxury of time to see if he can reach his full, draft-prognosticated potential, at an affordable number.

also MacK put up 60pts his rookie season, so you could totally see a high ceiling. Then he had two sub par years before Duchene was removed so he could spread his wings
Trading Kakko for a rental would be a colossal mistake, so I would expect Drury will do it.
consider the Avs had given up on Newhook in-season, trading for Eller, & Newhook got depressed & produced NOTHING the rest of the season & playoffs. Yes, he got a nice return this summer, but KK shouldn't be left in No Man's Land as the Rangers try to contend.

You're sending mixed messages though, first by saying that Kakko's value is low, but then going back on that and saying that he should bring a "superstar" in return.
Kakko and Lafreniere are mediocre players and I honestly think the Rangers would be better off if they were gone.

you cant compare kappo and hughes…. hughes went to a shitty team and got top ,mimutes and pp time. probably averaged 17 plus minutes. kappo was on 3rd line for 1st 2 yrs

Drury should be run out of town on a rail if he trades Kakko for a rental. Especially when there is talent available that could be had for less. Sean Monaghan and Anthony Mantha could be had for a couple of midround picks. They would improve the team, keep the Rangers under the cap and not leverage the future for a team that is playing .500 hockey right now.
The silence on Drury's abysmal performance since day 1 has been deafening. NY is supposed to be the greatest sport city in the world and the fact that seemingly no real commentator, analyst, journalist, etc… has called for this guys head is depressing. He outmatched in every aspect and all know who really runs the team and set the direction. It doesn't matter if we're rebuilding, retooling, restocking, re-whatever because the shiny object that rolls across Dolan's desk will always be top priority. It's why they'll win 1 cup in a thousand years.
The best move and probably only decent move made was simultaneously his worst move. You rented Vatrano for peanuts and let him walk after a solid playoff because Drury couldn't move on from another huge mistake. But at least they still have Goodrow
