What a news day! I feel like I can barely keep up with everything happening.
Seems wasted to not have the Sweden vs Finland game in Europe but I suppose players wouldn’t want to deal with such travel and it would make the scheduling difficult to fit

This league is confused on how to run allstar games… MLB and NBA figured it out, NFL acknowledges the ProBowl as a skip event

Wouldn’t be surprised to see players from outside these 4 nations to be involved in some sort of all star draft. Can’t imagine the NHL doesn’t want Draisaitl and Kucherov there at the minimum.
They should have split Europe. Seems silly to just make it Finland and Sweden, but better than nothing.
I would definitely watch that – not the all star game this year.
Knowing the luck of the NHL, Sweden and Finland would probably in the finals.

I’d rather see a fun 3 on 3 tourney. Let players draft their teams.

How would this replace the all star game? Would this happen mid season? Wouldn’t that put unnecessary stress on the players involved? I’m assuming these are going to be full-checking, high intensity games?
So Pasta, Draistl , Kucherov don’t count as star players then ok

The current Allstar game is hard to watch for a full 60 minutes. Everyone just half-assing it the whole time.
Now we get seven games of half-assing to watch? “Yay!”
They should have added a “rest of the world” team like they did in 2016 with team europe, so they can have all the top players
I like that, but not completely.
-I don’t want players on my NHL team to get injured in this event. Maybe use Olympic rules instead? Or use Olympic refs? What I am saying is that I do not have confidence that the NHL refs will look out for the safety of the players. They certainly do not during regular season games. IMO.
-I don’t want players on my NHL team to play endless overtimes in a side event. One period of OT then shoot out is good for me.
This is just my opinion. I want my NHL team to be healthy and ready to go for the NHL season. The regulation games should be the focus. Extra games should be light.
The all star event is a game for entertainment. Players do not push it so hard. The physical attacks that cause injury, and fights do not happen. I never watch it, so maybe I am missing it here?
And what about other countries who produce players? There are many who would never get a chance to play in the event. That would suck.
No Russia? Clearly the four best nations are Canada, Sweden, Russia and USA.
Hope restored that we can watch McDavid and Crosby play on the same team and hopefully give it their all. Please Sidney just stick it out for one more season at least 🙏

Bettman hates that pro international hockey is done by Olympics. So he is like I will make my own NHL Olympics and keep all the money.
How about actually having the best players, not a representative from each team. Make it a true all stars game
