  1. Jets have been destroyed on faceoffs and special teams this year. If Monahan can get the Jets possession at the start of their PP, it might turn around what has been an abysmal weakness for the Jets this year.

  2. Winnipeg hasn’t yet played with all their big guns in the game. Somebody is always hurt. We will see how Van and Edm do if one or more of their big guns gets injured.

  3. FYI: Lowry is one of the best 3C/shutdown ctr’s in the league. Just ask Jordan Staal – who just happens to know a lot about that spot in the lineup.
55-Monahan-Lowry-Namestnikov is likely how they will lineup down the middle. And Chevy still has plenty of cap room to do more shopping.
The Jets giving up their 1st when they have the Habs 2nd rd pick in their pocket also made this trade easier for Chevy.

  4. They got the first rounder from Treliving, he's the same guy who let Calgary's franchise player walk for free and then traded their other star player for lemons. I feel so sad for the Maple Leaf fans. Treliving sucks more than a hooker on Hollywood Boulevard.

  5. It's a late-1st for a pretty good hockey player (w/ injury issues) .. Monahan – if healthy down the stretch & into the Playoffs is a REALLY good depth guy – makes everyone around him a little better.

The *other pick ONLY applies if Jets 'win' the Stanley Cup so .. yeah .. Monahan got the Habs a late 1st (Jets pick this yr) + another late 1st from Calgary via FLA (Huberdeau / Matthew Tkachuk trade tree)

  6. You think Chevy, couldn't afford to let this LOW 1st rounder?? they have a 2nd pick that is close to this pick anyways. If Chevy didn't go for it.. he would have been ridiculed. and don't even bother mention the 4th…. that only IF the Jets win the Cup. So the 4th means nothing right now.

  7. It was a steep price but Sean Monahan fills the center needs of the Jets. Also he is good in the face off circle , Good on the power play , and good defensively.

  8. Another stupid fucked up Montreal trade .. every time they get a good player since Roy in the early nineties .. the Habs trade away these core players that could lead to a Stanley Cup .. Sean Monahan is the type of player the Habs need to win a up .. the just gave that cup to the Jets .. back in the day Montreal held on to its good players .. traded lesser players for better players .. and won Cups ..

  9. Monahan never played on the top line for the habs this year, and he actually played at least 10 or 15 games this season entirely on the 3rd line, so I don’t know why you’d expect a drop off in production putting him on the 2nd line of a much better jets team

  10. If you think this is an overpayment you don’t know the Jets picks or prospects at all.

Plus no way Monahan is a 4th liner. Jets are already running two 1st lines and two 3rd lines. 1A 1B 3A 3B.

Our second round pick is close to the 1st we lost. Plus we didn’t have to touch our prospect pool at all.

Guys bad takes, not a big price and watch what he does for us.
