I don’t get why the NHL just doesn’t make every single game available on their app for a monthly subscription, free of any regional blackouts.

I guess they’d lose out on the RSN and cable deals but wouldn’t they recoup the money pretty quickly by going down this route?

  2. wellpaidscientist

PAY FOR FULL CABLE OR DIE, SCUM!

  3. tdnyrfan

It’s not even true, the game will be on ABC & ESPN+. Games on ABC are not blacked out.

  4. Heard_Yal_WannaFloat

The NHL is maximizing their profit, that’s really all you have to understand. When putting all the games on their own app is more profitable it will happen.

  5. MouthNoizes

I had to get a basic cable package just to get 1 channel to be able to watch VGK games.

I use ESPN+ to watch most other games and then I CAST the STREAMS for anything else or streaming on the go

    EDIT: for discretion

  6. 136AngryBees

“Go fuck yourself” – the NHL

  7. Legal_Hyena_1241

I’m not a fan of piracy and think that the performer should be compensated. I was one of the very few who thought Napster was unfair to musicians in the early 2000’s. But even I think that the NHL has brought piracy upon itself with its television policies. This is some bullshit. I don’t like Gary Bettman but he’s a smart guy and they probably have some mathematical reason why they do this, but I hope their math is wrong and this destroys their television revenue. It’s the only way they will change anything.

  8. CrotchSwamp94

People wonder why the NHL isn’t as popular. You can’t even watch the fucking games half the time.

  9. Acid_Cat2

NHL: we need to grow the sport’s fan base!

Also NHL: no televised games for yoooouuuuu

  10. Dwayne402789

Every blues game in saint Louis is blacked out

  11. The NHL is killing itself from horrible broadcasting deals. Idk how it’s so hard for them to make the regional games always accessible

  12. TheNickelGuy

ESPN+, HOME OF THE COMPLETE 30 FOR 30 COLLECTION

*but only 10% of the actual hockey games*

  13. VictoriaAutNihil

I’m sure Denver has some really nice sports bar/restaurants. Have a great meal, a few drinks (if you partake) and enjoy the game amongst all the other Avs fans. Other than that, it’s radio or watch a replay later that night and try not to hear the score.

  14. Ryansmelly

This is fucking hilarious. Like. What the actual fuck.

  15. Kadaththeninja_

The nhl should just partner with nord vpn, at least then they can get a piece of the pirate pie

  16. TheMattbob5

Tonight’s Avs/Devils game is an ESPN+ exclusive game so you shouldn’t be blacked out in Denver or NJ because the local networks (Altitude/MSGSN) are not broadcasting it.

It is really confusing to watch NHL. MLS made it really easy to watch their games by streaming them all in one subscription via Apple TV without blackouts. They’re the league that’s ahead of every other major league by getting out of the dying world of RSNs.

  17. SantasScrotum

Aside from sailing the high seas, I haven’t been able to watch a single Preds game in the past 2 years, and I live 45 mins outside Nashville. Gf has been asking this whole time why I don’t watch it if I’m such a fan of the team & sport…🤷🏼‍♂️

  18. alejandrowoodman

The ESPN+ rep in that exchange is wrong.

Yes, someone in Denver would absolutely be able to watch both Saturday games on ESPN+

the Friday games would be TNT or your local partner based on the listing.

  19. ColetteOlivier12

It’s such a joke. Oh you live in that area and a team you like is playing? Sorry you can’t watch it. FFS.

    Signed,

A (long suffering for many reasons) Bay Area Canucks fan who wants to watch them actually beat the Sharks at home, but okay.

  20. ProfessionalH20

Honestly I’m just canceling all my Disney/hulu/espn. Fucking stupid ass blackouts, I have to ride the high seas like 75% of the time anyways.

  21. capsrock02

This is someone from customer service not understanding or knowing what the graphic is. The Avalanche aren’t in any of these games. This has nothing to do with the NHL.

  22. mikejc792

I don’t understand why the teams aren’t more upset about their product being essentially censored from a huge number of potential fans across the country.

  23. Mroldtimehockey

Worst run tv scheduling for any sport.

  24. tombsflow

If anyone is defending blackouts they should be forced to retire because the world has passed them by.

  25. Visual_Judgment_

The thinking behind blackouts is that they want you to just go to the game right?

  26. Puzzleheaded-Dingo39

I gave up on all of that stuff a long time ago. It’s the high seas all the way baby…

  27. Savings-Fix938

I stream the shit out of every rangers game. Fuck Jim Dolan, fuck MSG networks (I am a former employee). My dad watched every rangers game for 50 years until that greedy fuck took access away from him and so many others

  28. chicknsnadwich

Literally the only benefit of being a fan of a team that’s not in your city is not having to deal with this nonsense

  29. Football-Remote

Piracy is the only reliable way to watch sports. There i said it

  30. DaveTwoOh

Absolutely absurd! NHL already gets low viewer ratings and then they pull this shit

  31. thundercat1996

What the actual fuck. No wonder so many people sail the high seas!

  32. No-Rub-5054

I live in Sweden. Can watch every game i want on viaplay. No black outs here. Seems reallycomplicated over there in america. Feel sorry for u guys.

  33. SnooChickens3871

bEtTmAn Is GrOwInG tHe GaMe GuYs

Nhl has a worse tv deal than original ecw ffs

  34. Much-Consequence8648

And ppl keep talking about adding teams when we cant even watch the ones we have now.

  35. Escaped_Mod_In_Need

The blackouts are there to encourage locals to go to their own games. Y’all haven’t figured this out yet?

  36. DCDHermes

As much as I want to blame the NHL, regarding the Denver market, that’s all on Kronke. Altitude has been fighting with Comcast for almost a decade. Can’t watch the Avalanche. Can’t watch the Nuggets. Two world champion teams that the local market doesn’t have easy access to watching. Give me a streaming platform I can legally watch games on, and I would.

  37. DabsonFire710

🏴‍☠️🎶there once was a ship that put to sea, the name of the ship was an online stream, the fees went up and the views went down and the fans all sailed the seas🎶🏴‍☠️

  38. BurgerBob1010

ESPN: we know you bought the service specifically so you could watch your team that we’re broadcasting, but unfortunately we’re not going to let you because… uhh.. fuck you. Can we interest you in teams that you have not a single desire to watch?

  39. atrac059

One of the beautiful things about the NFL app in my fire tv is that I can go into it and select the game and it will take me to the related app it’s available in like CBS, FOX, ABC, etc… why can’t the NHL app be that intuitive?
