I don’t really buy these rumours honestly
This trade would only prove one thing: the "braintrust' have not learned from the terrible mistakes of the last half dozen years. Hanifin is not someone the Leafs could hope to resign — he is a pure rental. And we have watched the Leafs do this year in and year out and deplete the draft and prospect pool.
They would need to have salary retained this year and also send someone like Brodie the other way — probably not something Calgary wants.
At the end of the day it is pretty much a waiting game until Tavares’ 11 million is off the books. The 7th highest paid player in the NHL currently sitting at 71st in league scoring. Easily one of the worst contracts in the league right now.
