Wild. We’ve invested so much into this 25 year old about to enter his prime and we have his rights and…

The return better be massive and it better not be all futures.

As for a goalie, about 7 months too late to make sense

Edit: also, it’s Peters, so who knows

I mean I’m not surprised given that we locked up Cozens @7.1M which gives very little wiggle room for Mittelstadt since we’d end up paying him just as much if not more to play 3C. It’s not a done deal yet, but the only way they could end up salvaging it is if they try and move Mitts to the wing in the top 6.

Honestly Adams seems to have no idea what the fuck he’s doing

  4. JoshAllensRightNut

Smart of mitts to get out while he can. He is going to be sick on some other team

  5. Impossibills

The amount of complete mismanagement these last 8 or so months (yes I know more than that) has been a true sight to see

Good for Casey. Go flourish elsewhere. 👏

  7. the_missing_worker

Years of inaction followed by moments of frenzied panic.

    (Edit: Nevermind, it’s Peters.)

where the fk was this thought last June?

  9. farrightsocialist

I will actually drive into oncoming traffic if we spend assets to get on a #1 goalie

  10. BurgerFeazt

He’s a pending RFA who’s having a career season with impressive play the final half of last season as well. He’d fetch a haul. The only reason I’d do this is if you package Mittelstadt with a Savoie or Rosen and a draft pick to land a stud top 4 D. I know someone mentioned Columbus as being deep in the blue line, but I’m sure there’s other options as well

Disclaimer: I am rangers first Sabres second. I know trading Mittelstadt is stupid as fuck.

    But assuming this is true

    Quick+ picks & prospects

    For Mittelstadt

You get a mentor for Levi and UPL, at league minimum, and has played starter quality goalie this year and some prospects, (I would even be willing to send Othmann our #2 prospect)

We obviously get a relatively $ cheap center, potential to re sign him or get some return back, and ya so we will have to give up a lot

  12. gregordog

I don’t buy it. More likely: this info is leaked to help pressure Mitts into signing a lower deal.

    * RFAs don’t fetch that much at the trade deadline.
    * We have ~14m locked up with Tage and Cozens. Regardless of performance, we need a longterm C who is getting paid as a 3C.
    * The player wants to be here.

Was this a draft tweet from 8 months ago that he forgot to press send on until now?

I will be okay with it if the return is right. If we fuck it up then we’re screwed for years to come.

    One year from today:

« Casey Mittlestadt has the same number of PPG as the Sabres »

Realistically trying to trade Mitts makes sense AS LONG AS the return is worthwhile. Perhaps there’s writing on the wall that Mitts doesn’t want to sign. They can’t keep everyone.

As for the goalie, that seems odd to me. UPL has been playing really well and worked himself into the #1 spot. If they trade for a backup that makes sense.

It won’t matter either way as fans won’t be happy. The fans are simply over it all and without a playoff series win I can’t see it turning around.

  17. wiredbrockmire

What a moron! Mitts is fair enough but now that the goalie situation is practically solved, only now does he look for another fucking goaltender to add to the mix. This franchise takes more years off my life than McDonald’s

  18. DinoSpumonisCrony

Goalie….why? Does this team actually think they can sneak into the playoffs? They haven’t been able to string together a 3 game win streak all season. The time to get a solid back-up was the off-season. Unless they think they’re leaving Levi down in the AHL next season too….

  19. Weird_Cartographer_7

Just as he hits his stride. He’s been the most consistent all year. Is this a ‘history repeats itself’ moment, a la Reinhart?

  20. seeldoger47

I’d trade anyone if I thought it would make the Sabres better, however I don’t see a realistic potential trade out there where Mittelstadt isn’t the best player in the deal, which means the Sabres likely lose any trade.

  21. Easy-Top8822

He’s the next Sam Reinhardt. Players on this team only play well enough to get traded someplace better.

  22. Buff716917

Hypothetically they have a guy who will make less then Casey who can play Casey’s role probably just as well if given the opportunity in Peyton Krebs

  23. Track11T

I take anything Peters says with a grain of salt. Yes, he broke the Eichel deal, but he knows the Tuch family so well it doesn’t surprise me. I think ATW is far more interested in getting clicks than journalism and being correct.

-Trading Mitts makes sense, only if the return is right. I feel like using him and a prospect can really fetching something worthwhile and can help fill a need. If it’s picks and prospects for Casey then fucking forget it.

-I don’t get the Gibson thing. Not at the money he’s owed and the term of the contract. I like the idea with keeping Levi in Roch next year and acquiring another goalie to pair with UPL but I dunno about Gibson.
