The shot was weird, but that doesn’t mean you should full on cross check someone in the head.

  2. Riley is a bitch. If he is pissed off then challenge him to a fight. Cross checking someone’s face is just classless. Yeah it was a bitch move but you doubled down on that move.

  3. Key-Tip-7521

Uncalled for by both players. But Reilly was out of hand. Now, what would the reaction be if one certain Ranger dman had did that?

  4. clonicle

Whatever punishment Rielly gets for this will set the price to headhunt Matthews the rest of the season.

Players may think twice about it, but if the punishment for headhunting with intent to injure is only 1-2 games, it’s open season on their best player. If the punishment is substantial, Toronto skaters can sleep better.

15-20 games. Appealable down to 10, but it’s got to be a strong message from the league. I’m all for players policing themselves, but this was excessive.

  5. Shouldn’t have taken a slap shot. It was appropriate to respond. What wasn’t appropriate was a cross check the the mouth

  6. Fancy_Combination436

Both guys seem like dicks, but in different ways.

That being said that reaction was way out of line and coulda been really dangerous

  7. Large_Squirrel1446

If someone on a rival team did that to us, I would want some sort of response. Riley messed up with the cheap shot, but I like that it pissed him off. The guy shooting it knew exactly what he was doing.

The goal was purposely disrespectful. A deliberate exclamation point on a big win to rub it in their faces.

*It was great gamesmanship*, and in no way was Reilly justified in his crosscheck/sucker punch/whatever you want to call it. He should get a lengthy suspension for intent to injure.

  9. There’s ways to show your disapproval of something that doesn’t include cross checking to the head of a completely unsuspecting player. Suspension completely deserved

  10. imbogerrard39

Absolutely nothing wrong by shooting like that in my opinion. The violent reaction, totally unjust.

  11. therealdieseld

It’s like an emphatic dunk in a 110-100 game. There’s nothing with with Greig putting the exclamation mark on a rivalry game for the fans where they’re probably outnumbered at home. It sucks because he’s on my fantasy, but Rielly should get the Dale Hunter special and get 20 games. These slap on the wrist suspensions (or lack of) really encourage this behavior and I feel like there have been more egregious hits this year than last couple ones as a result. Plus, how fucking soft do you have to be that you see red from an EN slapper.

  12. Kaapo-Taco

Said this in r/hockey but imagine Trouba does this. He’d be executed at center ice

  13. vertigounconscious

bitch move. Reilly should be done for the season. don’t want him to score? don’t let him score. Absolutely no place for this in hockey at all this is outside of the game.

  14. explosivebuttfarts

The shot was hilarious and the kind of dick swinging the league needs more of, though not necessarily something I’d want to see while we’re competing for a cup, every win/point matters and you don’t want to end up like Patrik Stefan.

Toronto cross checking him in the face is the stupidest thing he could have done. Should have just punched him or dropped the gloves. Instead he’ll be suspended.

  15. the_mair

Personality makes every sport more fun and Riley is dirty af for that. I agree you should have to fight him after that but a cross check to the head is bush league.

  16. morgaine125

I’m indifferent to the goal; the retaliation was inexcusable. There are other ways to respond that don’t involve clear intent to injure.

  17. HockeyandTrauma

I fuckin love the shot and I hope every team does it to the leafs for eternity.

  18. Wesley__Willis

Toronto lost to terrible Ottawa in regulation and in the process one of their better players got himself suspended for a pile of games for losing his cool. It’s virtually impossible to have any sympathy for them regardless of how that puck wound up in the empty net

  19. wossquee

If a guy did that to my team and I was the last guy back I’d go over and give him a shove into the boards and toss a couple punches in the ensuing scrum, get a misconduct and move on.

I would not crosscheck him in the head. He should get 10 games minimum because there’s nothing resembling a hockey play here.

  20. FowlZone

rielly should be suspended and get his ass beat

  21. RNGJesusRoller

The Leafs are taking a page out of Florida’s playbook.

I’m glad they’re actually showing some emotion for once. They keep this up? They could be really dangerous in the playoffs. Lol.

  22. hairformen

One of the funniest things I’ve seen in a hockey game. All for it.

  23. SimDaddy14

No problem with the shot, no problem with the reaction. Game needs more grit.

  24. Swords_and_Such

It should be an indefinite suspension with a hearing where he can make his case to be reinstated to be held during the offseason.

And for the life of me I don’t understand how he doesn’t get criminally charged for literally attacking a person.

  25. Thr0waway-Train

Pretty good, now just waiting on some Michigan empty netters

  26. QUINNFLORE

If that’s me i’m absolutely clapping that shot, but i’m also a scumbag

  27. TechnicalLocksmith92

Bitch move by Reilly. The leafs are so soft

  28. pony_trekker

You guys don’t remember Anisimov shooting at the goalie? What was the reaction?

  29. It’s good. Reilly shouldn’t touch the ice again this season. Are you out aren’t you allowed to cross check somebody in the head after a goal because you’re mad? If you’re not ending the season let’s look at rewriting rules on hits during the game

  30. jnabdc5

Deserved but not to that extent. Poor sportsmanship on both ends

  31. brrrunch

Real possible scenario : losing your best D for a few games when you’re barely holding on to a wildcard spot, and finding yourself on the outside looking in.

… when you already lost the game. Doesn’t look tough, looks mentally frail.

  32. cha-cha_dancer

Dick move but that response was not warranted imo

  33. LtDangotnolegs92

I’ll take a hit to the head for $800,000 salary

  34. Unnecessary slap shot but the response was even worse

  35. Expert_Bandicoot_329

Play stupid games, win stupid prizes
