L’américanisation de la LNH et sa relation avec l’expansion future

Salut à tous et voici un sujet dont je voulais discuter depuis longtemps maintenant, alors j’espère lui avoir rendu justice ici. 1. Atlanta is an excellent choice.

As of 2024, 6.4 million people in the metropolitan area, over 7 million people in the CSA. 6th largest US media market. 8th largest GDP of markets. Home to lots of media and much of the movie industry. Lots of large companies. It's a great idea.

Also, here is what is going on.

    1) Last week the Forsyth County Board of Commisioners approved plans to build the Gathering at South Forsyth, which includes an entertainment complex similar to the Battery (right beside Truist Park where the Braves play), along with a new state of the art arena. It received unanimous consent by a vote of 4-1. The County has agreed to pay between 30-40 percent of the costs involved.

    2) There is a potential owner, Vernon Kraus. He owns the land where the arena will be built.

    3) The property for where the arena is to be built has been cleared and is in the process of being graded.

    4) Construction of the arena begins in September.

    5) Forsyth County officials have had multiple meetings with NHL officials.

    6) For the past couple years, the ECHL Atlanta Gladiators have gotten approval from the NHL to have a promotional "Thrashers Night" where the Gladiators dress up in the uniforms of the Thrashers. These are trademarked uniforms. They couldn't do this without NHL approval. This to me signals that the NHL is looking to reenter Atlanta.

  2. Stop expanding!!! There is not enough talent to go around with 32 teams. Drop to 24 teams or so and see if teams can field at least two “top” lines!!!

  3. There is no point in putting another team in Canada. Players don't want to play there, even the Canadian ones which is sad. Every Canadian franchise has the disadvantage from the get go.

  4. As much as I would like it, I don't see Cincinnati getting a hockey team. Three major league teams in a metro of 2mill, and the Blue Jackets 90 minutes up the road. It's one of the smallest markets with 3 teams, and would be by far the smallest with 4.

  5. The NHL should be a team in KC. Then tell everyone the captain is the greatest player ever. Rig games, and allow one sided trades. Then advertise him everywhere. Oh, and if he's not white no one can say anything. I mean the NHL flat out rigged the Skill Competition to allow a player to design a course that only that can win. So what's the big deal

  6. Kansas City already has an arena specifically built for hockey. When the Penguins were going bankrupt, in the early-mid 2000s, there was some talk about them being relocated to KC. I think Houston's NBA arena can handle hockey too. I would think one of those cities could easily take a relocated Coyotes team right now, if someone with the money is willing to step up and buy the team. I think the only way SLC gets a team is through expansion since they'd have to build an arena first, which takes years of planning. My money is on KC. It's kind of the hot place in sports right now with the Chiefs success, they can pull fans from surrounding cities like Omaha, Des Moines and possibly Oklahoma City/Tulsa, there's no NBA team in their market and there would be an instant rivalry with the Blues and Avalanche.

  7. Give Quebec, Arizona, Lord knows they dont need help with filling seats or selling merch. Than open new markets in The States

  8. I would LOVE to see a new team in Omaha get the support of all the surrounding areas and become a powerhouse.
Coming from Los Angeles, I would enjoy the underdog story!

  9. I coulda swore Ballisle wanted to move the Coyotes to Hamilton, not Nashville….but it’s been a long time since that was a thing

  10. I enjoy discussing this topic, people always bash the NHL's expansion but in the long run I think it worked out for them. It created new fans throughout the non traditional US Markets. If it were up to me I would expand to Salt Lake City, keep the Yotes in AZ!

  11. I think a good thing to mention with omaha is that it is a very fast growing metro area (over the past 10 years, it's grown about 19-20%). I think the NHL is thinking like the MLS did with Austin or the NBA did with Oklahoma City or even they did with Vegas in being that they want to be the first team that defines pro sports in a fast growing metro area.

  12. First off want to say I love your videos. I’m from Omaha originally and there’s some things I think got overlooked. Omaha does have an arena suitable for hockey it’s called the CHI Health Center and it’s right downtown. It’s where Creighton Basketball currently plays, it seats roughly 17K for hockey. This is where the UNO hockey team played before the building of the Baxter Arena they currently play in. The population of Omaha is about 830K but with the surrounding suburbs it puts it over 1M. Now I still don’t believe that’s enough to get an NHL team on its own. However it raises some bigger questions about the market and potential expansion. As a hockey fan nobody should get a new team before Quebec City in my opinion. To be so close to finally winning a cup and having another city take your team and win it is devastating..

  13. Bettman will step down/get fired before the Yotes leave Arizona, this is so closely tied to his legacy and given his oversized ego he will not let it go. Yotes may not have a big/strong fanbase but they have the most powerful fan in hockey, Gary Bettman.

  14. Houston has more potential new fans than Cincinnati, Kansas City, Omaha, Salt Lake, & Quebec City combined… just sayin’

  15. As a canadian slowly losing interest in nhl we need more canadian teams.Another issue I was told as ayoung man from a nhl calibre player in late 60s that money is going to be the ruin of hockey in Canada. Have noticed this as my son was playing hockey ,the more money you have the better chance your child will advance ,which means you have excellent players being left behind because they cant afford to play. There also seems to be a clic, attitude in minor hockey.

  16. Im still holding out for Hamilton or Quebec City. A second Chicago team would be cool too, i think the citys big enough to support 2, but thats just in my fantasy franchise mode nonsense
Also i think the Sunbelt expansion has been (mostly) embarassing.

  17. I grew up a hockey fan in Houston. My dad got me into hockey by taking me to the IHL/AHL Houston Aeros and we watched the Dallas Stars on TV. I go to games whenever I get a chance. I would love to see Houston get an NHL team, I could watch them and Dallas. #BringtheAerosbacktoHouston

  18. Love the whole video and youre very reasoned. All I gotta say is im not sure sponsorships are really "Americanization". When you drive into Toronto you see ads made out of bushes on the highway 😂.

  19. What about Hartford??? I know Bettmann hates Hartford and was partly responsible for the Whalers moving in 1997. They never should have left. The XL Center is old, but has had some work done on it over the past 10 years. It would need to be enhanced further, or a new building would have to be be built. Whalers merchandise is one of the best selling in the NHL, and the team has been gone for over 25 years.

  20. The sport is boring. Goalies and equipment too big, ice surface too small. Defensive coaching, no hitting, no fights…few odd man rushes.

  21. If both Houston and Salt Lake made it as an expansion team, I could also see Nashville becoming an Eastern Conference team, just for the sake of travel

  22. Houston Aeros needs to come to the NHL. The Aeros-Stars and Aeros-Jets rivalry would be phenomenal to watch

  23. When I saw this video in my home page, I was expecting it to be someone's diatribe about the evil parking lots and the demonic lack of public transportation and the Satanic single family household. Then I noticed this is a Hockey Guy video and was relieved because he talks about things that are actually interesting.

  24. Nebraska and iowa areas have tier 1 / 2 juniors hpckey teams so they shoud have decent hockey fans that can pull in people when theres a lack of pro sports in the area

  25. BlackBerry CEO wanted to buy & move the Pittsburgh Penguins to Hamilton, Canada, not Nashville Predators

  26. Would the league ever relocate and maybe help the team with money to give them a chance to rebuild quickly?
