We all knew we would have to get an absolute haul. Most GM’s would come in and make moves just to make moves

    In Conny we trust

Oh it’s dead-dead? I thought talks had just stalled over the retention! Still surreal thinking Marky was ready to go

I dont know how I feel about this… we have a goalie who is playing insane hockey who had a really bad year last year and prospect goalie who looks like he could be great but is otherwise unproven.

I know a rebuild is in the works, but chasing an excellent goalie out of town who could be a solid mentor for wolf may bite us. It could also be the best move ever and wolf is the next kipper and needs to be unleashed.

I dont envy Conroy but he’s doing solid work this season.

Also, I doubt this deal is dead dead and guessing a lot of this getting trickled out is to build the trade market. NJ will probably come back to the table when they see interest from other teams build

I feel like if Marky does get traded it’s in the offseason when there are more teams you could trade him to. Hanifin and Tanev are likely going to be traded right away, with each getting respectable hauls but when it comes to goalies you need to make ABSOLUTELY sure the return is right, cause these elite goalies don’t just grow on trees. I trust Conroy at the end of the day so lets see it thru

    “According to a report”

    What report sir?

Edit: Devils fans are calling the guy a hack so imma believe Elliot Friedman for now

i don’t think he gets moved mid SZN

they just got married and had a kiddo, i don’t think they’ll be jumping at the idea of moving across the country on/in two days

I don’t know anything about this stuff but I really don’t think they would ask Markstrom to waive it until it’s basically a done deal.

It’s a big thing to ask a player to waive and unless they are 100% certain it will go through, why put that stress on a player.

I’m just going off the info from the Kuzmenko trade. The Canucks and Flames agreed to all the particulars before asking Kuzy to waive, once he did, the trade call was made and it was official. It was also said that if Kuzy didn’t waive there was another player they would use, so the trade would have gone through regardless.

Realistically what would be the haul for Marky? A first, top 6 forward, and a prospect? Even more??

  9. flyin_italian

I don’t get it man. I’m not opposed to a Marky trade or anything, but unless we get an absolute titty twister of a haul, why bother?

*Where there’s smoke there’s fire* and all that jazz, but this is one of those evolving stories that is a real head scratcher for me. The devils must be super desperate.

No wonder Marky was getting miffed about the trade talk. For such a competitive guy who is seemingly happy with where he is, I’m sure being bugged about waiving your NMC and seeing rumours swirl is really irritating.

  11. sPLIFFtOOTH

I’m torn. I think trading him in the short term would be really bad for this season, but would probably be a good thing long term

  12. Paulhockey77

The fact that Conny is even having talks just shows how forward thinking he is.

  13. MechanismOfDecay

Anyone with speculation on who/what we’d get from the Devils for Marky?

  14. American-Musician

Jersey is farther out of a playoff spot than we are at this point

  15. hellodankess

This doesn’t add up. I would assume they have a deal in place BEFORE asking Markstrom to waive.

  16. I don’t think the deal is dead. Just sitting there dormant for now. Maybe it happens, maybe it doesn’t. Personally I would rather the Flames hold onto Markstrom to mentor Wolf next year. The haul has to be fantastic to move Markstrom

  17. MonkeySailor

That strongly suggests that this will be revisited at some point. And that the leak was made to increase pressure on one side, most likely n the Flames and their reluctance to retain.

  18. Turbo1518

Stop it. Do not do this.. I don’t want to go back to not having a top goaltender again. If you don’t remember how awful it was between Kiprusoff and Markstrom, just remember last seasons goaltending.

We shouldn’t be shoving Wolf into this with Vladar next season… I love Derek Wills comparison to Nashville and how they brought up Saros behind Rinne and would much rather have that.

If we had seen Wolf come in and play amazing already, sure. But so far he’s been ok. Definitely some room to grow.

  19. Lizard798658866

Just trade him, he’s never going to be worth more than he is this year. And we are not a contender, we need to think about the future.

  20. CJ_Boiss

Same guy reported that McLeod was probably going to be traded a month ago.

Doesn’t exactly strike me as a reliable source for this sort of thing.

  21. Less-Hunter7043

Unless there’s a Hughes brother coming the other way I don’t want to trade Markstrom to NJ
