Wow this was the best the Sabres have played all season
I honestly didn't even know they played today. I didnt think they played til Thursday, so seeing this score would have been fun to watch but seeing you post the stats…it sounds like they should have lost. I need atleast 5 – 7 games winning to think things have changed.
UPL is playing like we all expected Levi to play.
This performance actually makes sense to me because a Sabres article before the game mentioned Granato had them practice hard with getting pucks and bodies to the net. Focusing on getting 2nd, 3rd, or 4th chances. Not playing on the perimeter all night. That’s what they did! Plus they are finally clearing out and protecting the front of our net defensively. I was complaining about this during the first few weeks of the season and they seem to be seriously working on it. Guys, if they can fix this alone they are going to turn this around.
I’m disappointed with the majority of our fans writing off management and constantly bashing Power, Cozens, etc. Yes they got paid good money but I believe we need to stick to our plan and their maturity will come. Look at how many people wrote UPL off. I still wish we had a different coach but maybe Granato will start pulling his head out of his ass.
Nice win for the Sabres tonight! Finally they got some net traffic , only took them what 50 games. Lets hope they can play like this for the rest of the season. Good to see the boys blocking shots in the 3rd period to help preserve UPL's shutout!
Greenway under any other head coach would be told to use his size and HIT!

Maybe (probably) there is no making sense of the team. And maybe (hopefully) the excitement you felt at the start of the season was for a reason and the potential you legitimately saw is still there. I think, in my armchair quarterback opinion that the easiest piece to change in trying for a different result is in the coaching. This is a young talented lineup your GM put together. Unless Adam's isn't letting Granato try a different approach, I think management in Buffalo isn't the problem. The talent is there, I just don't understand trying the same things while expecting different results
If Granato isn't the problem, I don't know what any sabres fan is supposed to think. Last season Tage was inspired, power was inspired, Levi was inspired. You could tell they were invested. There was chemistry and excitement. In watching this seasons play, and the player interviews, and comments they seem un-inspired. I frequently see Rochester play in Utica and your farm team plays harder and better together as a group than the big team. I'm confused for you folks.

I would agree that there’s no figuring out the Sabres this season, but I don’t agree that the Kings didn’t show up. They outshot and outhit us by nearly 10 and they had a 2-1 advantage in faceoffs. The difference was that UPL had them snake bit and neither Kings goalie could stop a shot right at their crest.

My kid Peterka when not on the bench played great, got them rolling with a Pierre Turgeon type goal

I do not want to look too far ahead, but if Buffalo can manage a win against Florida next, the schedule softens up a lot and Buffalo could maybe go on a run with very winnable games against Minnesota, Anaheim, Montreal, and Columbus…
UPL was stellar yet again last night… his puck tracking, anticipation/positioning combined with his rebound control are all improved from last season and he really seems calm and under control in the crease. UPL is currently sporting a 2.51 GAA and has 3 shutouts in his last 8 games.
UPL showed me on Ryan Miller night that he could truly be a #1. That was a goalie battle and UPL helped the team beat the islanders who have a legit franchise, veznia caliber. He has size, speed, and mobility. He worked on his rebound control in the offseason and it shows! Levi imo is faster but, who cares when upl has like 3-4 inches on him. It does make a difference! I think eventually in 2 years it will be decided between UPL and Levi. Imo i still think Levi overall has the hand, but only time will tell!

You can be elite talent all you want, but talent can't beat size and proportions when Ice Hockey goalies are conserned, and somehow Sabres scouts and some fans are surprised or dumbfounded that Ukko i better? Ukko is 6'5'', little Devon is 6'0", ponder about it for a bit and let that sink in. You always, ALWAYS take goalie who is whole 5 fking inches taller and meatier for position that requires as much size as you can to cover as much of net as you can. People who are surprised are funny. Stop drafting/trading small guys pls.
