Comfortable and confident.. the way I like my Tippett.

I love the smell of paywall in the morning.

Pretty crazy you can write an entire article around the already known answer of “he started borrowing Travis Konecny’s stick.” Couldn’t be happier we got this guy signed to a new contract.

Getting compared to Mark Stone by other coaches around the league is a real nice thing to hear.

This may be an unpopular opinion, but Tippett needs to become a better defensive forward if he’s to take the next step into « world-class ». He’s prone to defensive zone turnovers, and hasn’t shown the willingness to backcheck at the same speed with which he attacks the offensive zone. Don’t get me wrong, I love Tippett and like the contract, just think he’s still a ways off from being considered « world-class ».

Look, I’m thrilled with Tippett on this team and am excited for his future here. I think once we get a legit 40-50 goal scorer then we can talk about someone being world class. It’s been 15 years since we’ve had a 40 goal scorer; Jeff Carter. Twenty-six years since our last 50 goal scorer; John LeClair.

Tippett is one of the best straight line skaters in the league with a fantastic shot in a system that generates offense via the rush more than just about any other team in hockey. I think his value and fit long term will be as a guy you can toss onto any middle six line that’s struggling to score, and he’ll still be able to score 25-35 goals a year due to his playstyle not really needing to rely on sustained possession on chemistry, he can just get the puck and either skate or fire away.

His best case scenario long term IMO is that he just continues to improve his craft at what he does well to the point where that 25-35 turns into 35-45 long term, making him one of the outright best players on the rush in the entire league. I have not seen anything that tells me he’ll ever be an effective top-6 playmaker or strong 200 foot player.

Stone is a weird comparison, I’d say Kreider, Pacioretty or Laine are better comps.
