I understand he’s well liked in the locker room, but I’m not a fan of extending Perron. The guy’s legs are cooked and he’s not getting any faster and the lesgue is the fastest it’s ever been. I’d rather get some young legs in the lineup.

I would think the defenseman were listening to are ghost and maatta

Depending on the offer, it could clear a path for Edvinsson to finally make the jump

I could see us both both add and subtract at different positions

In the case of Edvinsson we could see addition by subtraction via moving a vet Left D

    Ship 👏 a 👏 D 👏

    Call 👏 up 👏 Ed 👏

    Ship 👏 two 👏 D 👏

    Call 👏 up 👏 Jo 👏

  4. It entirely depends on $ for Perron. He’s too old for what he makes now, and he will keep slowing down.

I wouldn’t mind a defenseman trade, but the candidates are kinda thin, I suppose the « return » would be Edvinsson having a spot on the roster.

Seider, Walman, Chiarot (with the year he is having) are not going to be traded, and Petry seems like a locker room guy. Maatta has been solid, which leaves Holl who we just signed and Ghostisbehere who is a great pp qb

Our best move may be no move

My issue with bringing Perron back is I feel like his spot/role is one of the few in the lineup that can be upgraded this offseason. We aren’t a serious contender as the team sits imo. So how do we get there? Well we need to upgrade at spots that can be upgraded. 2nd goaltender, bottom 4 RHD, and middle 6 winger.

As good as Perron has been lately on the PP, I don’t like hearing about a possible extension. We already have a bunch of offensive minded wingers who don’t pk, or play notable D.

He is only going to get slower and more exposed if we extend him, while we have prospects that could slot into a similar, mostly middle six role, with room to grow into good special teams players.

At a certain point we need to take calculated risks, such as rolling the dice a bit on letting less experienced players play, because if we don’t find the next generation of cheap, young players, we are taking a huge risk by thinking we can find and afford the Sprongs every year in FA, while our prospects look to play elsewhere.

I’m in the camp of hard pass on Perron. Like the guy but nah, for too many reasons.

  8. darretoma

I don’t mind keeping Perron around but it can’t be longer than 2 years. I would prefer 1 year if I’m honest.

Everyone’s takeaway from this article is Perron.

I think it’s more interesting that Steve is listening on offers for our defensemen

Perron and Ghost stand out as two guys who can’t keep up in their roles and should be moved, if possible. Perron is a statue and has really fallen off in his overall game this season. His PP production helped mask his deficiencies in the past, but now he’s not even useful there. Ghost is bad at defense, which is a cardinal sin on this team with its already questionable defense and we have Walman or Chiarot who would do just as well on a PP unit.

I understand the asset management idea behind it but I don’t see why Perron either has to be traded OR signed to an extension. For what we’d get for him we can just keep him as our own rental and see how free agency shakes out. We don’t know who could be willing to come here in the summer and I’d rather have the flexibility

  12. KilledByDeath

Perron knows what it takes to win in the playoffs so I think he’s going to stay put.

If there’s a defenseman going out it will most likely be Ghost, I really don’t see him leaving unless its to trade for someone with term.

  13. Caboose119z

Only way I bring him back is at a discount. I’m talking 1 year 2Mil at most.

  14. Shtabie

If Perron is key to the culture here as a veteran, then of course its smart to re-sign him.

  15. uknownick

Speaking of Kane, he already has cups, is a lock for first ballot hall of fame, and has been paid handsomely over his career.

If we can pay him at a reasonable price, and he likes to play here, why should he decide to gets free agency, and try to build chemistry with a new team again. Not to mention the factor of having families that need to move with him too.

  16. Valace2

I will be very unhappy if they resign Perron

  17. yardsaleunderwear

Perron is my penalty box prince I really enjoy him but it will be interesting to see how this shakes out. I wish we had a shorter contract on Petry, he is SO SLOW and sometimes just seems to be processing the defensive plays prior to reacting while accidentally screening Lyon.

  18. BellsBeersy

Could re-sign Perron, also I think they could make a play for Stamkos if Yzerman thinks that’s realistic. It has sounded like contract talks have been a bit uncertain with him in Tampa, and they insist they won’t trade him. So he could become UFA. Would be an upgrade for the same Perron type — veteran, a leader with a great shot and a lot of patience with the puck.

  19. FatuousOocephalus

I like Perron more than many in this forum. I think he fills his role well.

I don’t think he should be back next season though.

  20. SpiritBamba

Ehhhhh I really hope we don’t extend Perron. He honestly seems kind of cooked to me. Not good defensively, takes a lot of dumb penalties, and is pretty slow and old with his offense waning.
