Should have won this but Oilers took too many penalties early in the game and they can’t sleep for half the game then start playing. Gustafson deserves a lot of credit, he won this game for the Wild. It must be hard for the Oiler goalies to see absolutely no shots for long stretches then they give up a grade A chance. Tough way to loose.

5-4-1 in their last 10. Goalies combined Save Pct is around .870 since the AS Break. Tonight, Picard allowed 3 goals on only 19 shots(2 of which he should have stopped), & PK is at about 70% during the same time.
And…they only play solid hockey for 20 minutes out of 60.
None of the above is the mark of a Cup Contender!
Don't look now but if the Sabres game keep getting this play from UPL who is playing at a vezina level (seriously look at the stats since Jan 1st) and the team is starting to find itself again like they did last year near the end….they may make a serious run for the playoffs still. They aren't that far behind with teams ahead of them struggling. They have a favorable schedule too.

The jets have some defensive issues right now. It started in Vancouver. Theres no way you should've allowed that goal in the last minute of the game. But at least they won in OT so we'll take it

Minnesota is 9-3-1 in their last 13 games with all 9 wins coming in regulation. Those include road wins at Florida, Carolina, Vegas, and Edmonton and a home win over Vancouver. It still seems like smoke and mirrors to me with the best possible outcome (for optimistic fans) being another first round exit and the 17th pick in the draft. They've had one shot at the lottery since 2012, when they ended up with the 9th pick in 2020. This could have been our year.

Wild always seem to give The Oilers trouble. Draisaitl was getting visibly frustrated all game. Should be a fun next few months for the Wild!
For the Wild to make a serious run at, and into the playoffs, Gus needs to take this win and build his confidence back and improve his resumé. Wild seem hell bent on trying to take only quality shots when they can get them rather than burning too much energy. Maybe a decent strategy when trying to stay healthy and playing tough road games. But, I think the Wild are poised to grab a WC seed and perhaps surprise a few teams along the way.

Oddly enough, since January 1st, the Sabres have the best goals against in the entire league. A lot of that is UPL, but they have been playing much better defense in front of him as well.
