JT just plain choked in the worst way at the end there. I dont trust him with the most basic things.
One thing I noticed last night is the intensity of the game. Players were playing like the game meant something, which is the closest thing to a playoff game you can ask for in regular season. And Bert really stepped up. As well as Marner. First time this season that I can recall being impressed by his contribution against a legit contender. Well done.
Only sour spot for me was Tavares on that empty netter. That choke was almost shades of Stefan vs Oilers back in the day with MacKinnon coming right back down the other way. I just don’t think that kind of lack of killer instinct can be overstated. If MacKinnon scores that, and they choke, we’re having a much different conversation after that game
Good things happening for Leafs lately
1) Can Marner & Matthews adjust to playoff officiating this spring. Playoff hockey is very much a different game?
2) Should Leafs acquire a new D partner who fits Morgan? With his skills – Morgan is hard to play well with
3) Leafs are well above Wildcard teams now
4) Only obvious mistake – JT misses the Empty Net Goal when he just didn’t slap the puck right into the Empty net
5) By Systems Thinking Statistics Science – it must be getting impossible statistically for the Leafs to continue without a playoff run this spring😀
6) With OV & McDavid – Matthews is trending to become this century’s top goal scorer
