Shane Wright's career is in a fascinating spot… What are YOUR thoughts on how Wright has developed? And where would YOU take him right now in a re-draft? I'd LOVe to hear your thoughts y'all! And DM me your Sleeper picks on twitter, would love to see them!!

  2. I’m a kings fan and I watched Wright play when Coachella came to Ontario, and my god the fans were going all out on him. They kept calling him a “fraud first pick”, and would chant stuff like “Shane’s a bust”, “Shane Wright sucks”, “Shane’s career is over”, and other stuff along those lines, and this is a team who has had a lot of successful players go through there including Adrian Kempe, Jack Campbell, Matt Roy, Gabe Vilardi, Quinton Byfield, Arthur Kaliyev, and someone currently on the team, Brandt Clarke. You know Wright is a bust when that type of fanbase goes off him, but it could also be the IE vs Palm Springs rivalry that goes way beyond these 2 teams.

  3. Hey, if Seattle isn't going to play Wright… its okay to trade him to Ottawa.

  4. GREAT video Nathan! I’m a huge fan of Shane Wright. I still think he has a tonne to give. Hope he continues to progress.

  5. I'm so happy Slaf is finally delivering as I always knew he would and proving the doubters wrong. I'm really happy Grav that you admitted you were kinda wrong about him, so big respect for that! As for Shane Wright I still do hope he gets better over time and challenges Slaf so the debate about them two continues for years to come in the NHL level. In terms of the redraft tho, TOP 3 would be exactly as it was on the Draft day in my opinion. Slaf was always the guy with the highest ceiling especially because of the tools he possesses in comparison with Cooley who is definitely more electric than Slaf, but appears to be less of a multidimensional player than Slaf. As for Nemec he was, is and by far will be the best D-man from the draft. He looks much better defensively than Luke in NJ, which combined with their comparable offensive tools makes him the best defensive prospect in the Devils system for their promising future.

  6. Shane Wright must have thought he was living in the upside down after dropping to 4th overall!

  7. I was on the Slafkovsky hype train since start and when i watched Shane Wrights games i still had no idea where the hype is coming from it looked like a desperate attempt to overhype a North American because it wouldnt look good for North America if the top NHL drafts would be again Europeans which is looking like the trend in recent years and in my eyes this trend seems like it will only increase over time. I have seen so many positives in Slafkovskys game while Wright didnt impressed me with anything really, he felt like a slightly above average player but nothing exceptional that standed out. I still think he can pop off in 1-2 years but i think the first 3 picks of 2022 drafts were the correct choices. One of biggest misconceptions is that many North American people believe North American junior leagues are the best junior leagues in the world when in honesty, theres a few European junior leagues which dont get as many views as North American, but in terms of quality of players feels better than OHL.

  8. Wouldn’t be surprised in Shane Wright becomes a solid 3rd line center on a contender, much like Sam Bennett. No shade with remark btw, in the playoffs you only go as far your 3rd line let’s you

  9. I would advise to not judge Wright's value too soon. Wriht is the opposite of a one trick pony. He is a versatile complete player with a great hockey sense. This means that he is developing many things at once and this takes time. I salute the Kraken for taking the time necessary to let him mature. The Kraken are not desperate to have him play right away which is the case with Montreal. I think that when Wright will graduate to the big league, he will be productive and competent, and I predict that he will be like a good wine which gets better and better each year. I think he will turn out to be a Patrice Bergeron type of player. A formidable player that does everything well and against who it is extremely hard to play.

  10. Wright will be fine, the Kraken are developing him the right way, getting big minutes in the AHL is better for development than 4th line minutes in the NHL imo. It's his first full year in a men's league, I would not be concerned at all.

  11. At the WJC, guys like Stankoven and Roy looked MUCH better than Wright, they were more invested and generated plays every time they were on the ice, while Wright only had a few "great" shifts per game. Even Fantilli looked better than him most of the time, while barely playing on special teams. And well… There was a whole universe between him and Bedard even while being a year older and a lot more physically mature.

That being said I never was a HUGE fan of Slafkovsky even as a Habs fan, I saw him as more of a mid term project that would mature at 22-24 years old, especially since he still has technical flaws in his skating and coordination (His feet and hands don't always seem to work on the same pace, and he loses balance quite a lot although it's been a lot better recently), but when he fixes these flaws he will be a pain to stop. He also seems very coachable and his teammates clearly love having him around which apparently has not always been the case for Wright…

I personally think Mintyukov will be the most impactful player out of this draft, we rarely see Defensemen like him come into the league at 19 and look poised and ready after only a few games like he did… And he did so with an honestly mediocre team and made them look good for the first quarter of the season. He also slowed down recently after the Ducks good start. He also plays on the second PP and very little PK so his ice time is not the highest, but when they get all their top prospects up in the NHL in 2-3 years and they get more mature, He's gonna look like a million bucks.

  12. Montreal, Jersey, and Arizona made the right call. Slaf is developing after a slow start, Nemec got the call up and has been excellent and Cooley is off to a nice start. Wise on all 3 not to buy into the hype.

  13. Seattle and Montreal are also in different situations. Seattle are in the hunt for a wild card spot and were a game away from the conference finals last season. On the other hand, Montreal are 7th in their division.

There has been word of the Rangers being interested in Alex Wennberg, so if he goes at the deadline, then maybe Wright gets a call up. Lastly, we're comparing a center to a winger, and centers are responsible for a larger chunk of the ice than a winger.

It i's nice to see Slaf making his haters shut up after people were calling him a bust earlier this season though, so good on him.

  14. Hes a bust!! Shitty attitude jyst a very self entitled person very disapointing folks..

  15. Why does everyone keep forgetting to take into account that he missed an entire season and development because of the pandemic. There were only 10 OHL players drafted in the first 2 rounds and only 1 is playing in the NHL. 2 are in the AHL and the other 7 are back in the OHL. He still needs to develop his game

  16. I feel bad for the kid. It's bound to happen where the NHL is going to hype kids up who are really good, theyre gunna have a rough first year, and get fucking dumped off into the AHL even though the development in the NHL is better and seattle isn't good enough to not be keeping him on the main roster. Maybe if they actually had some big names on the team, but I feel like they shoulda bit the bullet and just kept him on the team for the market value.

  17. Classic case of a guy who went through puberty early and quickly, guy was a full grown man at 16 and looks 30 years old today. These guys are usually great in minor hockey and in juniors but are destined to be 3rd liners in the NHL as the baby faces with allot more skill grow into their bodies…

  18. Covid happened. He'll be fine long-term.

Edit: also you're wrong about NJ going d no matter what. They had Slaf first and Nemec second on their board.
