  1. Lol, yeah, calgary traded a guy we all knew was out the door. Ho hum.

Dallas grabs a defenseman that will help them play. Makes sense.

What's more interesting is that new jersey of all teams are a third wheel on this. It's alot of money to retain on a play if new jersey was planning on gunning for it. If they aren't going for it it makes sense. New Jersey basically gets a free pick for holding onto funny money for a couple of months

  2. Devils fan here. Very pleased. Basically reinvesting some of Dougie’s LTIR money in the future.

  3. Sean Shapiro was let go from The Athletic (their loss, since Sean is great) some time ago. He has a Substack called Shap Shots that covers mostly Red Wings and Stars. He is both nerdy with analysis and engaging in his writing.

  4. Funny how Calgary traded taffoli for a younger faster taffoli and a pick. Then tanev for a possible younger faster tanev and a pick

  5. I would like to think we won that trade he's a big bodies right shot D-man. But we've had trouble with injuries in defense; Miro was out for 4 weeks ithink, and Haakenpaa when down recently. Hopefully he stays healthy and comes ready for a deep playoff run.

  6. You think Calgary would have taken Toronto's 2026 1st round pick for Tanev? (50% retained) . Seemed like the play to me

  7. No way any team was giving up a 1st rounder for a 34 year old defenseman who is a UFA in a couple of months. Calgary got a depth 2nd round Dman and a second. They done good. TO generally gets nothing for UFA's. Flame fans will be fine with this deal.

  8. The mediocre return here stings even more with rumours of underwhelming offers for an unsigned Hanifin.

I don't know where this prospect would rank in the Flames system but I think its fair to say we have no chance at a Cup, no elite talent on the roster (do you take a single Flame in the top 100 players of a fantasy league?), no elite blue chip prospects in the system (closest would be Wolf), and no line of sight to improvement.

This sth has very little hope of seeing a Cup in Calgary in the next decade. Send help.

  9. I am pretty ok with the return, its could be better of course … heres hoping if they move anyone else that they get some juice for it but its also better than him leaving for nothing. I mostly will just miss him as he was my favourite flame after Tkachuk left. The selfless play and leadership will be missed a lot.

  10. I’m sitting in the HEB Center in Cedar Park, Texas last night for pre-game warmups wondering where Artem Grushnikov was so after the watch the warmups, I click on X and see that he’s been traded and my Stars get Tanev. I’m happy but really started liking Artem’s game a lot. He seems small but at 6’2” he carries his size pretty well as a shut down d man and possesses a nice clean hip check (like the old school guys) and stops his opponents from skating around him. He was pretty shy in his first few games this year but has stepped it over the past few months. Good luck Artem. I understand that he stuck around last night because the Texas Stars and he didn’t know of the trade and was penciled in to start the game when it all came to pass. He wanted to say a few words about playing here and about his time with the Stars organization. Classy kid…

  11. For the last time Steve Rasmus Andersson is not leaving Calgary that would be like expecting Toronto to trade Reilly. They aren't that desperate.

  12. I know it seems kind of random for the Devils but they had $9.5M in cap space because of Dougie's LTIR. I guess it's worth it to build up draft picks that can be used in future trades

  13. Would like to point out that unfortunately Sean Shapiro is no longer the stars beat writer for the Athletic. That is Saad Yousef who also does a great job.

  14. As a stars fan, this feels like another masterclass by Jim Nil. Stars get the top 4 RHD we need and we didn't give up a first or any of our top-tier prospects. If the stars can pair Tanev with Heiskanen and finally get the poor boy on his strong side, lord knows they'll be pushing for that cup.

  15. Steve, after watching your videos for the past two years, I began betting on sports. Since then I lost all my money, filed for bankruptcy, my wife left me, I became an alcoholic, and now I'm typing this message from a hospital bed in Toronto with late-stage liver cirrhosis. Just down the hall is a poor kid with RSV, but because of my liver cirrhosis, caused by my alcoholism, caused by my gambling addiction, he has to sleep on the floor, because there aren't enough hospital beds to go around. But at least I got my latest booster shot.

  16. Tanev wasnt getting a first unless teams got desperate and a week before the deadline nobody is that desperate. Even if the prospect becomes Lybushkin that's an NHL player and he plays D. As long as the other team doesn't score it doesn't matter if he does. Pure rental getting what they did isn't bad but a fair deal doesn't make for a fun winners and losers convo 🤷‍♂️
