The Devils feel like the opposite of the Pens in terms of what’s ailing them. Pens have had phenomenal goaltending this year, but their scoring and Power Play have been atrocious. Now, the Pens are old as hell, while the Devils were many folks’ Cup favorites, so the situation is obviously more dire for the young team.

This was a statement game for the Devils…for the wrong reason. I'd punt this season at this point. Going for broke on a goalie is extremely foolish.
If the Devils had Markstrom they could make the playoffs. They need goaltending bad. Even at his age its worth it.

Extending Fitz was a big mistake. Other than winning the lotttery for Jack Hughes, the roster composition IS NOT GOOD. Ruff getting canned won't fix that. If you outplay teams on the offensive end, but considtsntly get outplayed in your own wnd, you better finish like you are the mid-80s Oilers
one person to blame for this season. FITZY, he knew the issues and did nothing in free agency when Stolarz,Lyon,Ned etc were out there. But we keep ignoring that and no thanks im not overpay for a goalie. Saros needs a new deal after next year, markstrom is 34 meaning rush 4 a cup, Gibson meh, Elvis over pay once again. Its foolish at this point to go all in when their window just opened.
Goaltending sucks and all, but their lack of second and third chance generation is way down. They don't step on a team's throat like they did last year. And their d-zone play is inconsistent at best and flat out lazy at worst.

Usually Shannon tries to stay as objective and neutral as possible for the game recaps, but I loved seeing a bit of that sadness and energy… You could tell he was really cheering for the Devils to turn it around, and frustrated by them doing so much right and find a way to fail spectactularly. I've only ever been a New Jersey Devils fan, I feel accustomed to the Devils being slow at fixing their issues at times, old-school and always wanting to get the best value with trades, picks and signings… You can really tell Lou left his mark on the organization! My expectations for this season when losing to the Canes in the playoffs were always 3rd in the Metro or wildcard, but while disappointed with the idea of playoffs being remote, I think I, just like many Devils fans, prefer to not jeapordize our potential for a hail mary for the playoffs at this point.

The goalie wasn't great, but the defense was awful for the devils. Give up L. Hughes the powerplay merchant and get a good goalie and a cheap decent dman. There you go that's a recipee for sucess.
Fitzgerald failed as a GM this season. Goaltending and coaching. It’s easier to fire the coach though, costs nothing. Keeping Lindy at this point is just trolling the fans.

Man, this one was the tough.
Jack 3 pts, but everyone will focus on the penalty shot flub. Daws should've been pulled earlier, he just didn't have it tonight after playing a ton of hockey. The d coverage issues were still present. They got scored against first, again… like 75% of all their games this year.
PP/PK was actually good, but in the end it wasn't enough. They've lost too many games like this all year.
Fitz was ultimately too patient with their flaws. Sometimes you have to be with young teams to not sell the future, but doing nothing with their injuries flushed this season. They still have a slim chance, but it's very unlikely in a now crowded field and with their D/G not being improved. Future is bright, but the lights dimmed further on this season from hell.
The concussions spotters didn't pull Bratt because they saw the replay and knew right away it was an embellishment.
This was a ton of fun to watch.
Fitz needs to be investigated for his inaction this season
Its been a tough season for Ducks fans but man is it great seeing DostWall perform like he did. Hughes whiffing with the game on the line was soooooooo sweet

The devils were too much hyped after last season. But give away all the d-men… is for me bigger mistake they made then the goalie question… and meier signing was also a joke i predictet.. they have so much talent.. but i would probably trade hischier and meier out of new jersey for a bigger center and a defensive d man…

Shaky goaltending is one, the dreadful defense is another. Last year the defensepairs were EXTREMELY aggressive backcheckers and had great chemistry. Marino – Graves was good pairing last year, but Marino alone is just stacking minus with Graves gone. Severson had the highest goals%, but he's also gone. Hamilton's been out most of the season. While the forwards are the strong side of the team, switching defensively sound Tatar to Meier seems to be a miss as well…
This game was so much fun to watch. Anaheim goalie was an absolute stud

As a Ducks fan I feel good Dosty stole this game, but dissatisfied with how many shots he had dealt with.
The devils should just start the game with an empty net to see if they can score first 6 on 5. If they give up an eng who cares they give up the first goal every game anyway.
I'm not surprised the Devils are struggling in goal. Ruff is hard on his goalies. He can only function, with a clear #1 in the crease.
Well I think Devils should put their play off hopes to rest and focus on the next year
