Did I just hear 3 more cups after this years?

They also announce that they trade Elias Pettersson and that the defence prospect has moved to forward as part of his new deal

Happy I just ignored all those insider articles and waited for the actual thing to happen.

Regardless of the price, Elias has been our superstar for years now. Clearly one of the best forwards in the league and can take over games. Not to mention has gelled with the core of this team. He has the values that the organization wants and really wants to win.

At the end of this deal he’ll have been a Canuck for 14 seasons. Nobody else will ever wear number 40 in Vancouver

I dont get it, isn’t he still a prospect? Why is he getting an 8 year extension?

Perhaps the biggest news in Canucks history since Tanev Instagrammed « pug in a box »

My first thought was “fantastic news”. Second was “there’s no way Hronek is getting 8 for his new contract .

No longer unrealistic to get both hronek and Pettersson under 20 million. Get hronek on 8-8.4 max and we are cooking

Hopefully now he can just relax and play his game and not worry about doing too much so he can try and get a bigger contract. lol. Go win a fucking Stanley cup now!

What threatening a trade to the Hurricanes does to a man

Well, Capfriendly has the [contract structure](https://www.capfriendly.com/players/elias-pettersson) now it seems. A couple of things to note:

    – NMC kicks in year 2 (2025-26) – I’m not 100% certain but I think this makes sense because the first year is an RFA year and I don’t believe you’re able to get trade protection in those years
    – the signing bonuses balloon for the first two years (12M + 10M), third year is all salary, but then it stays steady at $5M for the remainder of the contract. This makes it effectively buyout-proof for the first two years (which… if we’re buying out that early, someone really fucked up). It makes the last few years, if Petey DOES happen to drop off a cliff, palatable to buy out if needed
    – Mostly front-loaded to the first four years, and balanced year 5. The actual money paid in the last three years is $8.7M/year meaning if we really want to trade him to the Utah Coyotes at that point it may look attractive (NMC notwithstanding).

Congratulations Petey on getting paid. This is definitely a career contract and a solid piece of business. Getting him in under $12M and getting max term is a HUGE win for this front office, and getting almost $93M (almost $67M of which is guaranteed, even if we buy him out next year). Allvin has got to be a serious contender for GM of the year after this.
