Lol damn the thought of Carolina scared the shit out of him

Is it me, or do a lot of big names REALLY want to avoid being in Raleigh.

I’m not really surprised, it would’ve been a long shot to get him. I’m more annoyed at all the noise it made and someone leaking a « trade » with only two player names but doubtful that was the full trade offer. Just made everything look messy.

This ultimately came down to Pettersson wanting to stay in Vancouver more than anything else. It was reported that there was a 12×8 contract on the table in the off-season but he had all the leverage. Why would he sign for that if he could get 13 or 14 mil the following season.

This leak was Vancouver taking the leverage back by saying we would be willing to trade you, in season, so sign or else. Pettersson took less than 12 and if he is happy staying out, I’m happy for him.

As for us, our floor is really high and our ceiling is dependent on Svech becoming an elite goal scorer.

    Canucks Fan coming in peace:

For anyone thinking this was a slight against the Canes or that players/Free Agents don’t want to play in Raleigh…

I don’t think this is correct.

You guys just signed Orlov, one of the top Free Agents in that class. You have legit one of the best (if not the best) front office and analytic staffs in the league. It’s not even close. What this means is that players don’t usually get overpaid by Carolina (this is a good thing) but sometimes the Canes will lose out on a free agent… again, a good thing if they’re being overpaid (think Moneyball « opens up all kinds of interesting possibilities »)

With regards to Vancouver… keep in mind that the team/city has a long and positive reputation amongst Swedish players. We’ve had pretty good Swedes for many years and we’re one of the only teams to ever have a Swedish Captain (Naslund), Swedish Hall of Famers (Sedins) and a Swedish GM (Alvin). So lots of Swedes love it here. A lot of them have said that the city/weather remind them of home.

On Pettersson specifically, he has a group of friends on the team that he’s grown up with. Hughes, Boeser, Hoglander and others are some of his best buddies. Sometimes its tough to the leave that.

Lastly, Petey grew up watching the Canucks. There’s a famous picture of him wearing a Vancouver T-shirt growing up. There’s something to be said about playing for the team you grew up cheering for, with your best buddies, and a chance to finally win.

But don’t be dismayed. You guys have an awesome team and excellent leadership. You legit just need to stay healthy and either have one of your goalies go on a hot streak or acquire a more consistent goalie and you’re set.

Best wishes on the rest of the season and good luck in the playoffs guys. Hope you guys go on a run!

  6. Does that mean he’s not coming on then?

Now that there’s term left on the contract, Don is gonna find the move sexier than ever.

(I am not under the impression we’re actually pursuing this anymore)

Who is the next 100 point scorer with an expiring contract? I can’t wait to miss out on them too
