Great article. Very curious what the Hurricanes offer was if it was built around « a pair of talented young roster players, a first round pick and an additional high-end prospect »
Petey found out Allvin/JR doesn’t fuck around lol.
Paywall sucks.
Both Parties leave the table with mutual respect and everything they wanted. I think Petey will hit God-Mode now that the distraction is out of the way. I reckon his desire to win the cup is the biggest on the team.
Great article, love this calibre of reporting. As someone who watches a lot of Jets games Dillon would be a fantastic pick up if a deal could be made. He’s a consistent physical presence and he would deepen our blue line a lot.
Even Drance on Friday said he doesn’t think the Carolina deal was ever serious for the org. Basically a non factor for what transpired this week.
From the article: « the Hurricanes made the Canucks a serious, credible trade offer for Pettersson’s services this week is a fact, though. Whether the trade was actually a serious consideration for Rutherford and Allvin, or not, is less certain. »
Same with this sudden « Tkachuk situation fear. » It’s not like the org didn’t know full that was a *possibility.* I mean Rutherford isn’t an idiot. He and Patrik consistently repeated they were comfortable, no hurry, no rush, no anxiety about waiting until the summer with Petey’s RFA status. They said it a million times.. Possible to happen doesn’t mean it was ever really *plausible* though.
**Dhali:** Jim, the Elias Pettersson contract you’re patiently waiting to negotiate with him. Is there any update? I’m gonna guess you want to get to get going here but the player right now doesn’t want to engage…
**Rutherford:** No, and were ok with that, you know. He’s not unrestricted at the end of the year. We’ve said this several times. There’s no hurry. Let the player have a comfort level on his making his decision. Nobody is getting anxious. And he’s having a good year so why would we put pressure on him to disrupt what he’s accomplishing.

“**We can wait.** I’ll say the obvious, we keep saying it over and over — we really want him to stay. He’s a very special player. He’s very important to the Canucks, he’s very important to the city. « He can’t walk at the end of the season, and that the position we’ve taken. We’ve taken that position very comfortably, so **there’s not anybody getting anxious here.”**

Patrik Allvin:
« He’s an RFA so we have another two years. So, that’s where **there is no rush**, versus if he was a UFA. »

It appears many are emphasizing or rather OVER emphasizing certain aspects of the last week’s noise to explain why the Petey deal was signed sooner than originally planned. Because coercion based on « the trade » and « tkachuk fear » don’t seem like very compelling arguments given the circumstances.
I imagine the meeting went something like:
JR: “We want you to sign a long-term contract extension with us”
EP40: “I already told you — I want to wait until the end of the year before I sign a new de-“
JR: “Sign or we ship you to Raleigh”
EP40: “…”
JR: “…”
EP40: “You have a pen on you?”
