No one knows how !Francis still has a job.

  2. They gotta start giving him the Spector treatment. Just call him an idiot to this face

TSN/SN look at the standings in November, see who is likely in playoffs, who has expiring/talented contracts, and then spend 3 months counting down to tradecentre because they’re trying to turn it into a massive thing like the WJHC. Throw enough attention and branding on it (Free Agent Frenzy) and then milk it for clicks and eyeballs. This is the equivalent of TMZ or royal family gossip, they are inventing conflict and stories for attention.

I really strongly dislike Eric Francis. And I must have voiced it on Twitter cause he blocked me a long time ago.

I’ve always hated Francis. For each well written and good article he does he writes three brutal, off handed slander articles. I stopped clicking years ago, but everyone else still does.

Francis was right about Johnny and he’s probably right about this too

Marky wasn’t pissed about the rumours. Even Friedman said that they had a trade worked out and the asked him to waive. Marky was under the impression that he was moving and then the deal fell apart. If that is true that is pretty bad look unfortunately for our management group.

But tbh marky saying that might have made his trade inevitable either next week or in the offseason and Francis has been right about that shit a lot of

I love Conroy but he no doubt fumbled this situation. Our team MVP has a NMC and two and a half years left and he asked him to accept a trade request and didn’t get the deal done. That’s a big loss on his part, and it obviously pissed off the team MVP.

My impression of Francis is that he has a real hard content quota from Sportsnet so he grabs onto any dumb thing he can write about, usually with a negative slant.

It would be great if he could write an article about how he feels “up top” handles the internal day to day at Sportsnet.

I hate reporters! That’s what they do the corner you to get a frustrated, mostly not true story out of you !

  11. Don’t blame the media, he blamed up top for trading and then not trading him.

This is the business. If Markstrom doesn’t like it, he can play in Columbus. Markstrom said his peace and I’m sure he’s talked to Conroy.

People hear so much about how they woke up and realized they’d gotten traded over Twitter and fans complain that the teams don’t communicate enough.

This situation Conroy is dealing with a veteran and has given him quite clear transparency and fans are still upset. There’s no winning with fans it seems.

Everything that has happened this year with Tanev, Markstrom and everyone else has been quite appropriate if you ask me. This is status quo.

Eric Francis is why players don’t say anything of substance to the media. His twisting of a fairly innocent admission of disappointment into what he calls « dropping a bomb » is unprofessional and leads to more secrecy from players.

Francis speculates wildly that Markstrom gave his approval to a trade deal, and then admits that equally valid rumors speculate he wasn’t even approached about it before it fell through, all while hinting that it all means Markstrom has abandoned ship and asked for a trade.

There is nothing of substance here. This is a mediocre sports writer twisting a situation to match the story the writer wants to tell, just to garner reader engagement. Where is the follow up question? Why didn’t Francis ask Markstrom whether he was approached on the trade? Why did he not give us, the readers, clarification from Markstrom about what should have been handled better?

    This is simply click bait.

The problem is that Francis’ approach to journalism is proven to work. Time and again unsubstantiated rumours, exaggerated stories, and disgusting the context of quotes has led to higher viewership, which is the only thing that matters to journalists like Francis.

Saying that he’s not criticizing Markstrom but then actually doing just that by suggesting he doesn’t want to be part of the team is such a Francis move.

  15. The_Mental_Gymnast

Hey Francis, you’re a hack, an absolute embarrassment to Hockey and journalism. From the bottom of my heart, fuck you.

  16. Chrisjrc92

Said it once and I’ll say it again FUCK ERIC FRANCIS!!!

    !Francis

He’s been throwing gasoline and a lit match on the situation for months and it’s been pissing me off.

I truly think if media hadn’t been overblowing the situation do much it wouldn’t have caused to many issues with the trade.

To me it seems 50/50 that he’s either mad that they asked him to waive for a trade then wasn’t or is just mad they didn’t do a better job of keeping things quiet and protecting him from the BS better, it was known that he wasn’t pleased with all the trade talk even before things had gotten super serious with NJ

Conroy didn’t fumble anything, he could have squashed the rumors, but it’s the damn medias fault. Talking shit and creating a story. Shame on them

If the devils are willing to take markstrom’s full cap hit the flames should take it

I don’t think markstrom is a Flame next season. People don’t realize that if we don’t end in the bottom 10 next season we lose our first round pick to Montreal
