   “Teams that have highly publicized players that have been traded or are going to be traded, some of them have trade protection and they haven’t been willing to come here and candidly, that’s on us because our record isn’t good enough because you have to be at the top of the standings to get good players that want to come to a Stanley Cup contender, so that’s the stuff that we need to get better and improve on.”

   I think people might need to ease their expectations about this particular trade deadline.

   If a player like Chris Tanev who’s on the last year of his contract and is more than likely aware he’s considered a rental by Stanley Cup contending teams has the option to go to one of the best teams in west, or a young Sabres teams clawing to get into the playoffs, they’re picking the guaranteed playoff team every time. Doesn’t mean we can’t sign him in the offseason, but there’s a chance at the cup dangling right in front of him right now.

   I don’t have high expectations we will land a gutsy guy we are excited about.

   I’m probably more curious what cup contender will want Okposo. I bet GMKA’s phone is not burning up with teams trying to get him.
