  1. Pettersson is simply a man of his word. He announced last summer that he wanted to focus on hockey and deal with it in the off season, and that's exactly what's transpired. Just the facts:
-Canucks are currently first in the NHL standings
-Canucks have committed to basically any dollar amount he wants
-He was drafted / developed there and his best friends play there
    -His stuff is there
-How many good teams have both 12 million in Cap space and a hole for a 1 line center?

He may leave he may not, but the speculation at this point in the season is nonsense.

  2. Excellent analysis of the Mantha situation. Hard to see him in a Wings sweater again. I don’t think there were any hugs and kisses on either side when he left Detroit.

  3. Great report Mike!
Re: Pettersson: if they huy won't commit VAN needs to trade him. There's good and bad here:
Bad: they lose a superstar just entering his prime.
Good: VAN will get one helluva haul for him…NO DOUBT!!! They could score major talent, prospects, picks for him!!! If he doesn't want to stay: DUMP THE CHUMP!!! 😂

  4. I think their is nothing to worry about on the Petterson situation, I'm sure he'll resign with Vancouver in the offseason and just wants to focus on playing right now.

  5. I think the Canucks could squeeze two 1st rounders, top prospect and a top player out of a team for Pettersson. A 25 year old centerman approaching back to back 100 point seasons that still has more upside to his game

  6. Armchair GM here:

    To DET: Elias Pettersson
    Linus Karlsson

    To VAN: 2024 1st rd
    Alex DeBrincat
    Jonatan Berggren
    Albert Johansson

  7. At this point, nobody knows what Elias is thinking regarding his long-term future with the team. If I were to speculate on his reservation regarding signing, it would be the bipolar, grating, and scrutinous nature of the Vancouver sports market. Either way, Canucks should know that even if we were to lose Elias we would do quite well in any resulting trade. As a longtime Canucks sports fan I really sincerely appreciate all that Elias has done for helping the team win back its respectability as a franchise, and I also understand if he chooses to ultimately go elsewhere.

  8. If Pettersson doesn't sign by the Summer, maybe Canucks should see if the Sens are really considering moving Brady Tkachuk

  9. If Pettersson does not want to sign here .Then Vancouver Canucks have the choice of hanging on to him and trade him in the summer or they might get offer sheeted and they can weigh that than

  10. The Devils BADLY need D-men not so much a goalie. They have very good YOUNG Defensemen but they, Nemec and Luke Hughes, are far from being top D-Men. That will come in a couple of years. They are constantly turning over the puck in their own end. When this is put together with the injuries to so many of their veteran Blueliners it may appear to be a goalie issue but it isn't!

  11. Brady Tkachuk, Barzal, Nylander, Thomas, Thompson, Konecny, Boldy, Keller, plus picks or prospects depending on which and any cap dumps necessary to facilitate a deal.

^ These are the players I would listen to offers about and could definitely be traded. Most other top players are either untouchables or Pettersson is better than. The rest aren’t far enough along in their development for where the Canucks currently are, as they need players who can gel now and help them to continue to be competitive.

  12. i think the holdup is the EP doesn't want to negotiate during the season. he's RFA, so even if they end up having to trade him they won't lose him for nothing. an offer sheet would net van 4 1sts.

chances are, he signs in the offseason, and the term will be more of an issue than the AAV. maybe he takes the matthews approach, 4 or 5 years.

if he really does want to leave, it won't be during the season. not when the canucks are playing so well.

  13. He would fit perfectly on the left with bedard but he is a natrual center…. If i had to pick any team i would say ANA…. its just s guess. Him a Carlson might be the best duo in hockey.
