As teams continue to scour the market for right-shot defensemen, sounds like #Canes have set the ask at a 5th round pick for Tony DeAngelo and they will retain 50 percent to make it happen ($837,500).
It's been a tough year and they're willing to grant a change of scenery.

What?
We’ll retain salary and lose TDA for a 5th round pick?
Unless this is tied to something else it sounds stupid. TDA is more valuable being depth for the playoffs if someone gets hurt than a 5th round.
Edit: I’m not a big TDA fan, but I recognize he’s worth more.
Please I can only get so excited. It was clear that the contract was going to hurt us either way.
I guess whatever moves we make, they’re not expecting it to cost more than like 6.6m or whatever our cap-space would be?
So if we do nothing except this and the ducks/leafs trade, we would be paying 1.5ish (retaining 50% of [Ilya Lyubushkin](https://www.capfriendly.com/players/ilya-lyubushkin) and 50% of Tony) to lose tony for a 5th and a 6th?
Don is cooking something up. Idk if it will happen but there’s been too much noise for these to all be courtesy calls
He’s not going anywhere. They will need him come playoffs.
This seems silly unless Don is going Chess Grand Master mode
Yeah no thanks. I’d rather keep him as the 7D than pay him to play for another team and eat more into our deadline space.
Wack
The last sentence in the tweet almost sounds like Tony asked for a move.
He’s not playing much here, and if he wants to continue playing in the league he has to prove he is capable of success on a team not named Carolina imo.
Why would they retain any of his salary?
Maybe they plan on bringing in someone on D? Who fucking knows at this point lol
I’d love to have TDA as depth, but if he wants to move somewhere that he can get more playing time then that’s fair. When he’s paired with the right guy in the right system he’s a monster. Hate it didn’t work out this round
If we’re going to deal him I’d rather offload his entire salary though. Seems a bit generous to be handing out 50% retention. Right shooting d-men are in high demand right now and I feel like we could leverage that in a trade, even for a guy like TDA.
I don’t like TDA as a person but he’s a great depth option. Probably cracks top 6 on a lot of teams
Bro is going to get traded by the canes for a second time. WOW
This sounds like either TDA wanting out and us obliging or some sort of move to squeeze out even a tiny bit of cap space to prep for something else. Otherwise it doesn’t make any sense.
