If the defensive prospects were doing better in Iowa this probably wouldn’t be happening. This buys them time.

Finally an extension I can fully get behind!

No trade protection according to Joe Smith

2 years seems unnecessary, but not really upset about it. Iowa’s defenders are not close to ready and the UFA market is always a question mark.

Happy about this honestly. I like Bogo!
McLovin--
I trust Bogo at 1.25m more than our prospects on their ELCs right now so seems like a fair deal.

That’s not bad at all

I like this. As a third pair d man who is still serviceable the deal is good enough.

Great deal for both sides. Sets us up with a decent blue line on paper next year, assuming El Capitan is back to health.

I would have preferred 1 year but the AAV is low enough that I’m not gonna bitch about it. Best case scenario he ends up as your 7D in the last year of that deal because a couple of the youth types are ready.
Really though, if we can get off of Merrill’s deal some way some how, this works out very nicely, because our prospects who are closer to being ready (Hunt, O’Rourke) are left shots, Spacek and Masters are a bit farther out and Johansson didn’t really blossom. With Addison in the rear view mirror and Spurgeon’s health a serious question we definitely needed another right shot in the room.

YESSSS! I wished for this in the last post game thread. I think one year would have been better but I am thrilled to see someone who is putting in his level of effort lately get an extension.

Good deal. Buys time for our prospects, gives us nice depth when everyone is healthy, low cap hit for a veteran who can play top 4 minutes if needed (but is ideally a 3rd pairing dude), and that 2nd year is nice because if some of our other D prospects do figure it out and step up, it could turn Middleton into a nice trade chip during his last year of his contract. In other words, flexibility all around.

He’s getting older bit he’s still a fine 3rd pairing guy to have and especially for cheap. Much better than Merrill and Goligoski at least.
Assuming Spurgeon is healthy next year out top 4bstays the same as Spurgeon, Brodin, Faber, and Middleton and then I’d pencil in Bogosian and Chisholm (who I hope we bring back) as the 3rd pair to start next year and we’ll also probably see a few of the younger Iowa guys rotate in to get games as well.

I’m cool with this. Bogo is a decent 3RD.
