As a Leaf fan i knew he wasn't going to the Leafs. Guy's looking to get paid at this point in their career are looking at taxes aswell as the city or "market"and he went to Dallas for all the same reason all the other wealthy people go there. He will keep Millions of his multi millions when he signs down there. Business is business.
Clearly the reason the Leafs didn't pull the trigger on this trade was Tanev wasn't willing to sign for a 7-yr contract at 13-million per season…oh and a no-trade clause of course! If he was willing to sign for that amount of cap space, then the Leafs would've easily given up two first rounders! 🙂
As a Leaf fan that was actually in the Leaf dressing room once in 1967 the last year the Leafs won the cup i'm tired of hearing Toronto say the don't want to trade # 1 pics because they are saving them for the future.The time to win the cup is now so suck it up and make a few good trades.The Predators say they won't trade Jusse Saros but offer them a #1 pic and just give them Sansonov to get rid of his problem then go after a right hand d man before they are all gone.STOP looking at the future when you have the top scorer in the League right now.
I've been picking the Stars to win the cup for 2-3 years now..if the goaltending can be league average or slightly above, i think they can get er done.

Thank goodness, the leafs didnt surrender their first round pick for the 34 year old Tanev. If they keep their first and Easton Cowan they will be able to pivot on the fly, instead of enduring a dreadful five year rebuild one day.
